This has become one of my favorite plants in NM. It's done very well through snowy winters and hot summers. The flowers are lasting a lot longer than I thought they would.

I've just planted some more in Phoenix, Arizona, and so far it's doing very well, but it is under a bit of shade screening during the hottest time of day.

Salvia gregii is one of the "must have" plants here in North Central Texas.
It blooms repeatedly through the growing season if given a haircut after each wave of bloom.
It is one of the last plants to go to sleep in the fall, thereby providing nectar for migrating butterflies, hummers and many other insects.
It is very easy to propagate from cuttings and it allows you to increase your stock with no problem.
My favorite color is the red, but it comes in many other colors and they are all lovely.

Thanks for mentioning cuttings. I'll have to do that since they are so pretty and do so well.

I have several of these in my yard in SE Texas. I just finished trimming scraggly ends because I can see new growth at the base. It hasn't bloomed yet but when it does it has a very long blooming season. Its pretty drought tolerant once it gets established but it thrives when it get watered regularly. The humming birds and the butterflies love it.
Mine is in full sun all day.
