Today walking around I collected up small redbud seeds
Red Castor Bean
A few jerusalem artichoke
some Bronze fennel seeds
I may have enough to do another offer of the onions and garlic

Dnd , that was what the plant was about , I will be as happy growing some of them as trading them , I really like the possible options and backups trading allows ..

I just ordered from Territorial:

Aunt Molly's Ground Cherry

Malibu Pole Bean (75 days, OP, 7” mint-green stringless pods)

Super Sugar Snap Peas (OP, 58 DTM, 5’ vines, more disease resistance)

Dragon Radish (F1, cylindrical, 4-8 inches, red skin, white flesh, 40 DTM, mild)

Yukon Spinach (Organic, F1, 38 DTM, winter, thick oval leaves, many disease resistances)

Lyon Swiss Chard (OP, 50 DTM, mild flavor like spinach, Thick lime-green leaf, 9”x12”, wide white mid-rib & stem)

“Vit” Corn Salad (Mâchè) (OP, 50 DTM, substantial leaves)

Edited to add:

And my second Franchi order came in:

• 1 x Radish 'Flamboyant 3' (112-25) 4" long cylinder, said to stay mild.

• 1 x Bean 'Rocquencourt' (60-23) bush French bean, yellow

• 1 x Valeriana d'Olanda (140-3) Mache, corn salad

• 1 x Radish Burro Gigante ("Giant Butter Radish", big mild red ball)

• 1 x Garlic Rosso - Certified Naturally Grown - (Franchi sold out after I got mine!)

DND, how do you feel about garlic cloves in the mail? I only got a little of the garlic, so I would only be trading 2 offers of 5 cloves each, or maybe one trade of 10 cloves, barely enough to sample it. And Northerners are supposed to fall-plant it 6 to 8 weeks before hard frost is expected ... mid-November plus 6-8 weeks is January, so they could only be used by Southerners.

quick question, do you have to include growing instructions with each pack or just the name and type of seed?

Daniel, I try to enter the growing info into the plant database. That way I only have to write it once and everyone can access the information. But if you do this you have to do it way ahead of time because the information needs to be approved.

Thanks for the advice, there is no way I could fit all the info on each seed pack. Usually I just google search how to grow blah zay blah from seed when I'm starting seed I never started before so I figured others do the same.

You know , I might get the allright smarty . But what I do is this .
Where does the plant grow native or best as production ,
Temperature , light , and Earth ,
Then look at the average annual weather of where the plant grows ,
And then educate from there
Many of you are already very expericened from the same . Smiling

Well, since I have to stick to plants that can take heat, my field gets pretty narrow on some things. So, you understand why I have tons of zinnias, lol. Most drought tolerant plants require pretty much the same care so it's pretty straight and simple for me on how to sow something. That is not to say I do not look it up and make sure. I'm known to fail. As long as I have the plant and it's name, I'm good. I like the date on there as well. I do hate this... Morning glory. red. That is just aggravating to me. But if you tell me Morning Glory, Rose Rambler. I'm at least going to know something about this plant. I don't mind the research. Red is just too vague for me. There are a ton of different shades of red and I like knowing what the shade is before I plant. Show me a pic of the red morning glory? You might just sell me. I don't have to have a specific name. I just want to know the durn color, lol. I suppose that's just my ocd coming out in me.

Oh and the heat .. Like the Petunia that grows in concrete that saves water for it when the roots reach or the Campanula perscifloia Alba , That can cook dry at 90 degrees in the sun and is as happy as if it was growing in a bog ( it can do that do that also )

Lol Jim! I didn't even realize there was a morning glory called Rambler. That's too funny. You have always given me enough info on the seed packet to determine what that plant is and looks like if I wait to plant it. I can deal with how you label. ;)

I understand how you feel about your camera and how the colors do not come close to what the flower color truly is. I ended up being so frustrated trying to show just how beautiful some of my plants were this year that I drug out my photoshop and went to work. I corrected the lighting and colors. When I look back on my pictures, I want to see what they really looked like that year and maybe it will make me plant it again.

Once someone scolded me (not from this website) for including cultivation and other details.

SHE always looked them up, and told me that EVERYONE should do it that way because they will learn more by looking them up every time.

My feeling is that people that like to do research will do that, whether I write something on a label or not.
Most people know how to plant most vegetables, and have their own methods, so they will ignore my notes or be amused.

If someone does get a packet with instructions who did NOT know how before, and ISN'T inclined to look things up and write down the answers, maybe some of them will find it convenient. That's one reason I usually include two labels in each packet. Someone could bring one label out with them when they sow. Or split the packet for spring and fall sowing, or for succession sowing.

(Also, once I've composed a two-sided label, it's much more convenient to format a whole page or half-page that way, rather than allocate multiple different-sized rows and still keep them all aligned on both sides of the page. So I usually have more labels than I need. The temptation to deal out two labels instead of one is strong! And a few times I got such a good deal on a bulk packet that I include 3-4 labels so someone could share that packet with a few other people, without having to hand-write labels.)

Sighing!

I think I need a smiley with a sign that says "OCD".
Or maybe Dave could create a special smaller font just for posts that we KNOW are going to be nerdy. Nerd Font.

I'm okay with Garlic cloves. I approved Jim's cloves and bulbils for the last one. It would be a little to late for northerners to plant outside early December though, as you mentioned. Do they transplant well?

Thanks!

I don't think so, or at least I never read anything except "plant, wait, harvest".

I'll probably list one trade and include a warning that it's too late in the year for anyone with frosts to plant them.

I haven't posted it elsewhere, but Daniel and Rick (and Jim?) have been posting in other forums and websites, directing people here. I haven't sought out those other posts, so I can't link you to them, but they may be able to reply with the links to the posts they have made in other areas if you're curious and want to add your two cents in or want to verify where the posts are so that you can post in other places if you would like.

The places I 'advertised' on NGA the last two times weren't terribly effective, so I'm leaning a bit on you guys to find your friends or other people who you think would want to join. It's easy for me to say how wonderful the group is, but I think it means more coming word of mouth from members like you who had a fun time and want others to join. Smiling
