Thread OP

Why did my Straight Eight cucumbers have blossoms but failed to produce cucumbers? The plants look healthy, I don't see any bugs or diseases. We watered once a week. No problems with the rest of the garden. We do have the plants crawling up a fence for easier access and we are totally organic in our garden.

It is one of two things:

The flowers you are seeing are only male flowers.

Or, the plant had female flowers but they were not pollinated.

I agree Usually the plants start out with lots and lots and lots of male blossoms. Takes a while till the female blossoms appear.

Shelley, not to criticize or anything, and btw we'd love to see a picture of the plant, but only watering once a week doesn't seem like enough for cucumbers to me.

Welcome to NGA, @Shelleyand !

It would probably help us to know where you are located; and perhaps some photos of your garden.

Are you seeing pollinator insects? Has your weather been extremely hot (or cool)? Did you see any tiny cucumbers with the female flowers that just failed to develop?

Welcome! Can you get some pictures of some of the flowers? I'm curious if you are getting female flowers. Cucumbers need to be happy to make female flowers, and watering once a week might not get them there. It all depends on your weather though. Do you see bees visiting your cucumber flowers?
