Our club is hosting the fall regional meeting next year and I'm thinking about who to get as speaker. Joel Polston popped into my head. Who would YOU most like to see speak?

Dr Darrel Apps and Mr and Mrs Stamile.
Maybe it is because I have so many of their plants except for Mrs Stamile.

Judy Davisson.

Curt Hanson sounds like he would be fun, and it seems likely that he would "have stories to tell".

Richard Norris would be interesting.

Maybe Jamie Gossard.

I have met a couple of these, and talked to a couple more on the phone.... they are just people like you and me.
Join the AHS if you haven't already. The Daylily Journal is full of articles, and will normally have interviews with
three hybridizers in each issue, plus they have a daylily blog just like this one where many of the hybridizers
hang out. It will give you ads from growers, and lots of photos to add to your wish lists. It can also help you to
locate other gardeners that may live in your area.

I agree With both Sue and Deryll, the AHS is an excellent resource for a lot of information. A trial membership is a great way to give it a try. I treasure my Daylily Journals and still have every one of them that I have received since becoming a member quite a number of years ago. The hybridizer interviews are worth the price alone IMHO.

$15 is incredible value when you think that in addition to the Journals for the rest of this year, the membership Portal gives you online access to the previous journal issues going back for decades, and also the AHS email Robin and its archives going back to 1997. In the latter you can read emails from some of the hybridizers mentioned above, even those who are sadly no longer with us.

I'm not sure who that "join the AHS" chorus was directed at. Confused I've been a member for a great many years. I suspect the others have been as well.

Deryll started it Hilarious! I guess we don't know who might stumble on the thread and be interested in joining, since they come up on Google searches, so I don't think it was aimed at participants in the thread. But it is kind of off topic.

no, we were just saying that all of the hybridizers are in the journal, so you don't have to wait for a favorite. Each has an interesting direction, and we all like those differences.

I have to say that Jamie Gossard is fun to talk to, but Dan and Jane Trimmer have always been really nice to me. As with Bill Maryott. They are all inspiring.

One hybridizer that we had been wanting to see give a program at a daylily meeting was Bob Faulkner. We got to see him this past spring in Valdosta, GA and were not one bit disappointed. We drove 6 hours to the meeting and 6 hours back home. Glad we did!

I too would love to hear Bob Faulkner talks about his experience as a hybridizer.

Karen, Bob is an entertaining speaker. He is very knowledgeable and willing to share his experiences which not all hybridizers will do. Hope you get the opportunity to hear Bob.

Great speakers listed here! One I would like to see again is Tim Herrington. He visited one of our clubs 7 or 8 years ago. Kind, knowledgeable and a fantastic sense of humor, I remember having a wonderful time that day. I'd also like to see our own Terry and Ashton.

My local club (if you want to call 320 miles round trip "local". ) the Connecticut Daylily Society has Karol Emmerich speaking this coming Saturday the 17th. Everyone is welcome to attend. On that note...I've been thinking with club meetings gearing up for the fall, winter and spring, would there be interest in a sticky thread where folks could post the months upcoming meetings and program info for all the various clubs we belong to? It could be a sticky, or not, depending on how active we are in adding the monthly meeting info...

We do have two podcasts that can be listened to on NGA, one with Curt Hanson. The other with Melanie Mason....here's the links....

I would second the Dave Talbott vote. I had the pleasure to speak with him over the phone several times and he was a riot. Presently, I would vote for Ed Zahler.

I really admire the blues that he has been trying to breed into his daylilies. Would love to know how he goes about doing that!

Thanks for seconding Dave Talbott who of course passed away nearly eight years ago. Those of you who missed hearing either Dave or Ra missed true treasures in the AHS world. We do have many living (I guess living though I don't know for sure after this horrendous summer) treasures of AHS and while some may be shy a great many of them are very outspoken. Put their names in a hat and draw one, you probably can't lose!

I had the pleasure of hearing Bob Faulkner speak several years ago in Central Florida. He was great to talk to. Very down to earth and you're right, Doris, very willing to share.
