For those who don't follow the site talk forum, here is some information about upcoming site changes. Click on link then go to first page of this thread:

The thread "Changes are coming!" in Site Talk forum

I for one am looking forward to this! We will be able to customize our home page by selecting what we want to see. I am sure there are folks here that will really appreciate this option.

That sounds promising and positive. It sounds like it might take some patience to get adjusted to it. Looking forward to the new look. I'll have to keep tabs on that. Thanks, pard.

Getting use to the new format. It's nice and smooth on my tablet or computer. But on my phone it's a bit harder to maneuver around. I do like the new tabs though. Just an adjustment period. But all in all, Good job!

If you have any problems here is the place to go in the site talk forum:

The thread "September 2016 website redesign is complete!" in Site Talk forum

I hope you all will take advantage of customizing your home page. I have already reduced mine to almost nothing, keeping what I enjoy and use most. Even though I have removed much of the stuff that was there I know it can still be found elsewhere if I want to access it.

All in all, it seems just fine. I haven't delved into the custom settings yet, so I am hesitant to add any "criticisms". I am glad that after so so many remarks about not being able to cycle through pics in a thread by simply clicking on the enlarged photo, Dave finally gave the reason, which is understandable. Still don't understand about the resistance to darkening the background. I do see it's been done ever so slightly, but.....

Really surprise that no one has comment on the permanent banner on every page except thread pages. Pretty ugly, IMO, and it adds absolutely nothing to the page. I would rather not see it at all, except that it is something on the page that is not white!

I am really bummed that my FF zoom add-on doesn't work on the expanded photos anymore, and I can't open a thumbnail in a new tab anymore either. Something I will bring up down the road, but pretty unimportant to other people so I'm not going to clutter the thread with something most members won't understand anyway. If anyone knows a shortcut way to do this, shorter than saving the image and then working with it, I'd love to know.

Hmmm ... I can still open thumbnails in a new tab (Firefox 49.0.1).

I can't either. But the part I miss the most is that we can't toggle back and forth when comparing between pictures in the same post. Grumbling And FF variable zoom don't work, I have to go to windows tools to magnify 200% to get the standard size full frame we had previously. The upload speed is much, much faster with the new system, a big plus!!! Thumbs up

It's taken me the better part of my garden.org time today to figure things out. Finally got my home page "cleaned up". I will say it is great seeing only the things you want to see.

Oh yes, I did read that. Haven't done any custom anything yet. Still an ugly banner, though....

Pard, I am using FF 49.0.1 ! I think I know what else to try, now that I know it isn't this site. I had change a couple settings a year or so back to get some videos to work correctly, and those settings would still be carried over through all the new FF versions. But there is no "about:config" anymore, so I think it will take some doing....

Oh, Lorn, the simple windows control + + ! How could I forget that! D'Oh! Yeah, I can deal with that. Smiling

Back in the day when I was using Firefox on my Linux machine I was able to make adjustments in Firefox that controlled print and background color and even made the banner disappear back then. I kind of liked that!

I have tried it here and so far the only background I have been able to change was individual newsletters where I have changed the background to a light cyan, a background color I have used in the past. I also like black print on a slightly darker gray background. For me, unless it is something natural like landscapes or flower photos I like to avoid a lot of flashy colors.

So where do you go to change your homescreen? I have looked everywhere including my profile page. I can change some things but not pare down the stuff on the home page to what I want to see. Is that a function of FF do you think?

@Leftwood Rick, if you want to see the community provided banner on every page then go to your profile and preferences and set the banner to appear sitewide Thumbs up .

Don't forget to save your change.

Hi Mary Stella!

Go to the Homepage (Homescreen) and scroll down to the bottom and look for "Customize your homepage". Then you can drag and drop items. If there is something you don't want to see then drag it to the area on the left (Available for use). When you are finished you will only see what is left in the rows and columns (which seem to resize when other items are removed).

You don't have to save your changes and you can always drag and drop the other direction too. There is also an option to return to the default setting and start over. This is a great tool for customizing your homepage! Hurray!

Also, it is not a function of Firefox but of Dave's programming.

Thanks Connie. Will do.

Just made changes. I would never have found that small discrete 'customize' spot at the bottom. Thanks again. Now I have just what I want and no more.

At first I could not find it either! I was trying to follow the directions on the Site Talk forum where all the discussion is taking place.

I will answer whatever questions I can here but I am still learning too! I will say this though, I really like being able to customize and remove that which I don't pay much attention to.
