Hello!
I have a question about the growth of my lime tree. Ive had it for about 8 months and originally saw one branch of the tree take off (right side of picture). The other areas seemed healthy, but didnt grow much. Now this branch is growing 3 more branches near the top and the rest hasnt grown much still. Should I be concerned that this area of the tree is taking all of the energy? Is there something that I need to do or is this normal for a citrus tree like this.

Also:
Ive had maybe 20 limes off this tree, but they get maybe 1-2" and then fall off. Should I be concerned about the fact that no one gets to full mature size?

Is the over-growing branch coming from near the ground? If so it could be growing from the root stock and not be the same lime at all. The leaves, however, do not look different so my idea might be wrong. Examine it closely. If it is a hostile take-over from the root stock, it should be cut off. How old is your lime tree? The little limes may have fallen off because the tree is not mature enough to support a full load of fruit.

I wouldn't be worried about the one-sided growth. On the small sized fruit, Pork is right, your tree is too small yet to be bearing fruit. I know how hard this may seem but you should give the tree a year to grow a bigger root system, and more top growth before you let it make fruit.

Yes, when you buy a little citrus tree with fruit on it you should take it all off. Argh. Been there, done that. Heart wrenching but it will pay off with a better crop next year. A little plant like that making 20 limes already is amazing, but also may have set it back on growth so that actually might have been a cause for the lopsided growth. Just guessing.
