I live in climate zone 5B but just couldn't resist purchasing a red rocket crape Myrtle. It has done beautifully through the summer, but can anybody advise me as how to try to protect it in the winter months to come?
Just put down a thick layer of mulch and it will come back next year unless we have a really harsh winter. It will die back to the ground most likely but will come back if you give it a nice thick layer of shredded leaves or wood mulch.

I would cover it in a BIG pile of leaves after it defoliates but before it gets really cold at night. It might stay alive higher up that way.
