The picture above in the database does not have the weeping growth habit of the Weeping Alaskan Cedar. I think it is an upright Alaskan Cedar.

It should look like my photos here... the young branches and needles weeping downward.

SGT, I am glad you brought this up. My son and I have been looking at this tree for a while now and wondering if it was mislabeled at the nursery. He thinks it is a hinoki. Kind of a bummer, because it is planted very close to the house and is now a mature tree with a much wider growth pattern than I had anticipated. The nursery is bought it from is out of business. I'll take more photos of the bark, needles, and general appearance and see if we can better ID this. I'd forgotten that I uploaded a photo to the database, once I can properly ID it, I'll ask that it be moved. Hopefully I can get pics posted later today.

It was not meant to be critical at all. I think Admin also uploaded an error. A giant weeping sequoia from a park. Possibly mislabeled also. The Alaskan Weeping Cedar isn't so intensely dark green and slender.

No offense taken. I look forward to figuring out what this beast is so I can figure out if it will overpower the place it is in and/or if I need to take it out. It's currently much wider than I had anticipated but so far manageable. Rather annoying really - I paid a lot of money for that tree as an immature sapling thinking it would have a slender shape amenable to close-in planting (it is about 4' from the house). Although, from the looks of yours, even that part of the label may have been wrong.

I have not forgotten about this thread, but my camera battery is dead and I can't immediately locate the charger. It's driving my crazy - I have a small ditty bag I keep on a hook in my den with all our chargers, which is now missing. I can't recall the last time we took a trip where I would want the chargers, so am at a loss... I may need to buy a new charger.

Here are some photos of the tree in question. I appreciate help in correctly IDing this, as I'm fairly certain it was mismarked by the nursery. I'm also a bit concerned about the yellow needles shown in the 3rd photo, which are pretty prevalent throughout the tree, mostly on the inside.

@calif_sue or @eclayne - Could this thread be moved to the Plant ID forum where it may get more folks' attention? I'd like to get a better ID on this and then propose a move of the photo in question, which I agree was likely mismarked at the nursery. Thanks.

It's pretty complicated to move threads from the database to the forums. Make a new thread in the Plant ID forum and link to this one, would be the simpler approach.

Did you ever get this one resolved? Perhaps move the images to the generic Nootka Cypress (Xanthocyparis nootkatensis) since it isn't the 'Pendula' one.

I have not done anything with this lately. I'll just open up a new thread in the ID forum to see if I can get an answer. My son thinks it is a hinocki of some sort. Sue, could you just delete the photo at this point? I'll reload it if/when I can figure out what tree it actually is. Thanks.
