So, i got something in my living room that gives my plants some kind of fungus
It makes the floor (wooden) underneath the plants very greasy
When i take the plants outside, they become fine
Even if i introduce a new plant, it becomes sick within a month :S
Please help me

Is it possible for Mealy Bugs to live on in the room, when there are no plants ?

Mealybugs attach themselves to plants and suck the sap and secrete a sticky substance called honeydew. By the time you notice the stickiness, the infestation is pretty far advanced. Treat the mealybugs with a solution of 5 parts water, 1 part alcohol and a squirt of liquid soap. The key to success is thoroughness of coverage. Spray the ENTIRE plant so that all leaf and stem surfaces are dripping wet. If you miss a few, they will reproduce and come back to haunt you. This is a messy task, so it is best done outside where you can spray with impunity.

Mealybugs need plants to survive long term. However, they can survive on furnishings for a short while. It is best to wipe down nearby surfaces with soap and water or whatever you can safely apply to those surfaces. But don't go overboard and feel you have to exterminate the whole house!

If you don't manage to kill them, I would look at other places they may be hiding. The mealy bugs may be living in the tiny cracks in your wooden floor, furniture or the unglazed insides of your ceramic pots.

You can use rubbing alcohol full strength in a spray bottle, 409 full strength or a combination of the two. I use full strength alcohol and 409 on my orchids and cactus with no ill effects but you might want to spray one leaf to make sure your plant can handle the chemicals. Rinse the plants thoroughly after applying. Using the usual insect sprays doesn't work for long on mealy bugs - they build up resistance very quickly. They don't build up resistance to alcohol and 409 so its a good mealy bug remedy.
