Plant ID forum: What is this please

Hi I have this growing in different shrubs and it's seems to be suffocating other plants, it has the black pods, looks creepy, any ideas please.

It looks like Strophostyles to me. Either Strophostyles umbellata or Strophostyles helvola. Both look virtually identical except one is annual and one is perennial.
