I created a small garden path, just to my hose. This year I gave up on all the many ground covers I have tried, and used Sedum Alba. There is a little rock garden there now too. Every time I went to the nursery, grocery, or Big box store, I got a new ground cover sedum. It has just been so fun to play with all their colors and see what grows well.
I have to admit a preference for the 3' sedums. My Autumn Joys have thrived for 20 years without any care other than cutting out the previous year's flower stalks and I'm not sure they need that.
I will be dividing them and there are a few offshoots I can transplant this year. They may be the sturdiest and most dependable plants I have.
I have a nice pink one in my own very small garden which is very reliable and the bees love it, but if I had to choose one it would be this "Gooseberry Fool" that I saw at Newby Hall in the summer.
Jo Ann, I started growing all the dark purples in afternoon shade. It seems black makes the sun to intense and that just cook them, especially if we have a very hot summer. It is like growing a plant in a black pot and it cooks he roots.
