Welcome to the Porch Swing!

Everyone is welcome to join us on the Porch Swing a thread where we talk about cooking, books, pets, birthdays, TV, things about the area where we live, anything that won't fit into the regular daylily forum. The subject is always changing.

Don't worry about reading all of the thread, just jump right in and join us! We're sure you'll enjoy visiting with us.

Here is a link to the Porch Swing Recipe Thread, where recipes that are posted to the Porch Swing thread are copied and saved. These are recipes that members have tried and liked, or recipes that other members have requested. Recipes are copied to the thread before the old Porch Swing threads are deleted.

The thread "Recipes from the Porch Swing" in Daylilies forum

We have many threads covering a wide variety of information on the topic of Daylilies. The Daylily Forum has two threads for off topic discussion - Weather In Your Garden for weather related chat and The Porch Swing for all non-daylily messages and chat.

When a new Porch Swing thread is posted, the old Porch Swing threads will be left up for a few days, then periodically deleted, so be sure to copy any items out of the old thread that you want to keep when you see a new thread is up.

* All other off topic threads will be relocated to the Sandbox, All Things Gardening or Co-ops, Group Buys and Classified Forums. If you inadvertently post an off topic thread to the forum, please let us know and we'll move it into its proper place, and if we see it before you do, we'll let you know by Tree-mail that we moved it.*

I see your link to recipes. Yesterday I was asked for a Zucchini Bread recipe which has been one of my favorites over the years and here it is:

Zucchini Bread
3 eggs
2 cups grated peeled zucchini
3 tsp vanilla
3 cups flour
1/4 tsp baking powder
3 tsp cinnamon
1 cup oil
2 cups sugar
1 tsp salt
1 tsp soda
1/2 cup chopped nuts

Beat the eggs until light and foamy. Add oil, sugar, zucchini, and vanilla and mix lightly - then beat well. Add dry ingredients and mix until blended. Pour into 2 greased loaf pans. Bake at 350 for 45 minutes or until bread tests done. Pumpkin or squash may be used in place of zucchini.

I agree And the butterfly picture is awesome.

I was just thinking that I used to see Monachs but just don't see them anymore. Makes me sad. And I have butterfly bushes and Milkweed growing here to make them welcome.

Really amazing the amount of tomatoes (and squash) I am still able to harvest.

I picked this box and then I divided it up to give away.

I took Lily to the Vets today for her annual checkup and booster shots that she needs. Shot was Kennel Cough Booster.

She gets a blood test which checks for Heartworm, Lyme and 2 other tick diseases. Will have results on that maybe tomorrow.

The two vets I have seen at the clinic both left so I had a new girl vet just out of vet school. Very nice and she was great and gentle and thorough with Lily. But she looked 20 years old to me!! Hilarious! Hilarious! But I liked her and so did Lily so I am happy.

Lily's checkup showed she is in excellent health. Her knees are good, her ears are clean, she is in perfect weight.

Her teeth got checked and they got the best reading they could get. They do a test strip and it goes from zero to 5. Higher numbers being bad meaning all sorts of teeth and gum issues. Lily's strip came up zero which is amazing as last year it was a 1 and the vet said not to worry only puppies have zero and 1 was excellent. But after that I started brushing her teeth and later raw chicken bones so obviously it does work.

I don't use cookbooks except for ideas. I am not opposed to recipes...I just can't leave well enough alone. I always ask because the ingredients always trigger a thought about what else I could do.

That being said..me and desserts...breads...cakes..,.nah...I need a recipe and a hand hold

Speaking of reading recipes...
The younger of my two sons loved being read to by me. I used to read him short stories from children's books. We moved on to recipes and he delighted in my reading the instructions of how to make the dishes. Guess I have a flare of making it sound like an adventure!
