I didn't see anything in the scrophularia group that jumped out at me, but it IS a large group apparently ...so ...maybe?

Sherry, did you ever figure out the name of this plant? Did it flower? How big did it grow (height x width)? It looks similar to some type of Amaranthus, but it's hard to tell without knowing the particulars.

I think that it must be the echium pininana.....I had it growing in SoCal, but mine did not look exactly like this, I think due to the difference in climate and amount of water. It was this size, but looked different. How big will it get here? Well, this is a pic of one a block away from us here....
