Have any of you ever grown a plant from seed just to see if you could? I like to experiment so about 8 years ago I received some paulowaina seeds and wanted to see if I could grow it here in my area. I started the seed in my green house in regular potting soil. Let them grow inside in the pots for first year. I gave one away to a gardening friend who lived close by and we each planted them out in our yards. Sadly her tree died the first year. The one I planted kept dieing back to the ground the first 3 years then after that it started to make some progress. It is about 10 ft tall now and doing pretty good. It still has not had any flowers on it, but who knows? So what have you all got growing in your neck of the woods?

I ordered desert rose seeds from Taiwan, planted all of them in pots and produced 18 seedlinga. they are mostly growinng in bonsai pots, I have all these little trees. next year they should bloom, so much more rewarding than buying one already grown and flowering. now I have many to share.

I grew Sensitivity plants from seeds I found out in the garage - the seed was probably 20 years old (I bought it in Hawaii when my kids were in grade school. They are now in their 30's). One sprouted but quickly took over the greenhouse. Did you know those things have thorns?

I believe Paulownia tomentosa is extremely cold hardy, surviving down to 0* F but will not bloom in cold areas.

Yes, it grows here in Zone 4 (-30 to -20F) but does not flower. I assume it dies back to the ground each winter (it is growing in a public garden).
