I love that table! I'd like it to be taller.. .more of a table and less of an end-table. If I were still in TX, a friend would make it for me. Love the salvaged wood, too. I can easily picture that on a porch between two rockers, for instance...

Yes I would have it be a regular table height too. And of course you could make it for any kind of plants! I could see it filled with Kalanchoe or Impatiens. It might improve by having a metal/plastic insert so the wood doesn't rot so quickly.

What a good idea for a table. I would love one with succulents planted in it. I really like that as a taller table, too. I have become a convert to small pebble mulches in pots since I've moved here. They use sizes from aquarium gravel on up and they mulch it pretty deeply so that you never have any splashing of dirt or water when you are watering.

I love that table. DH is always picking up crates for making tables for the green house. We've even used them to make fences and chicken coops. The one thing I would change besides the height is I would make it to hold pots instead of planting them directly. It's eisier to find places to put pots when I bring them in come winter than a whole table.

I've got the scrape pieces (old barn wood), I just need to stop by the newspaper office or the small engine repair/sales place and pick up some shipping crates. They usually have them or pallets, which is generally made the same way. Pallets are easier to haul home in the Blazer.

That IS cool! And I agree, taller would be better and using pots would definitely be an improvement. Only problem with using flowering plants would be the little helpers they'd attract. I don't fancy sharing my drink with the little pollinators! Hilarious!

I agree I would have to make it with succulents or something that didn't bloom. I have been stung in the mouth before and NEVER want to experience that again!

Hey thanks for the shout out. This was my first succulent table that I made. It had been sitting in my head for awhile, and one afternoon...I decided to skip pulling weeds to make it. It is still going strong, and I have done a larger full size table size one since. Yeah, the wood will probably rot after a bit, I'm guessing 2-5 years, but by then I would be ready to get rid of it. If you're doing edibles, keep an eye out for the type of wood you choose. A plastic liner would do well. Thanks again. Matti

Any other suggestions, please mention them, since I am definitely going to be leaning on my hubby to make me one for my birthday!

I am more afraid of doggies and Grandkids climbing onto it than I am having it rot - priming and painting the planter box would keep that from happening, though plastic would be super-easy. This is a neat idea, Mattie Thumbs up
