Left margin is gone now, but I have half the page on the right as a huge white blank. Could the message boxes be wider and not as long?

The customize Home Page feature is really simple, as I finally found out when I got up the nerve to mess with it. I now have my watched threads and the Forum List right at the top again, which makes me happy.

I'm using Firefox with adblock plus on a desktop and I see the text on this page occupying a little more than half the page. About 45% on the right side is blank.

I love the changes. I took a 15 minute lunch break and came back to my computer, looked at a page and when I clicked the home page icon, I for a brief moment thought I was being redirected to another site. Blinking :iagree:These are nice changes on this very professional looking page/website.

I'm sure that in time Dave will work out whatever bugs there are. I don't think anyone should give up after just one try/day/hour or whatever. Change takes time to adjust to.

The right side is blank on some pages because it is occupied by things on other pages. For example, if you click on a tree mail, you will see all of your tree mail options on the right, and the page is rather short (if there is 1-2 messages for that tree mail). You will see, even at the top of this page, there are 2 options for thread management, but the thread is long, so the rest of the page will be blank (or there will be an ad).

That's ok Paul! I just got a little kick out of just how illiterate I am! Hilarious!

I do like being able to customize the home page. Thumbs up And I'll probably keep tweaking for a while.

So this is what I'm seeing now, on the forums...Half a page...

@Dave ... what seems intuitive to you is not intuitive to me and I am hoping you can help me make things a bit easier for me so I can get up and running quite quickly, then I can play around and do more customizing.

*I'd like to be able to have my watched threads at the top of my home page .. as I did under the old format .. how do I do that ? ... this should include any thread that I have participated in so that I know that someone may have responded to a post that I have made until I have marked it "unwatch"

* I'd like to have my watched forums next without having to scroll through all of the other forums ... next

Those are the basics, because they are the focus of my participation on NGA and then I can play with customization.

It would be helpful if I understood your definitions of the following:

What is included in ...

Primary feature
Secondary feature
Cool NGA feature
Popular pages
Inspirational stuff

I have a few more questions but need to get outside to get some work done, but I think getting these questions answered would help me a lot going forward.

Thank you for the hard work you are doing and I know your goal is to make the site user friendly ... Smiling

You don't have to use any of the new customization features in order to use the new layout. In fact, Dave spent a long time developing that tool for the 5% of users that will actually be using it.

The site works just like as always if you don't choose to customize. The only difference is you will be "stuck" with the order that we decide for the casual user instead of what may be your personal preference of what you want to see.

95% of visitors to NGA do not use the forums at all- they are here for content, and our new layout reflects this change. The customization homepage was developed for those of our users who are "power users"- here multiple times through the day/week. Those are going to want to see the conversations and newest happenings--each of these members like different things best about the site and now each person can make NGA look the way they like it.

A lot of those kinds of things are now doable, now that the redesign is done. We can (and will) be adding a lot in the days, weeks and months ahead.

Oh gee ... I'm so technically challenged, I can't figure out how to customize my home page. Dragged and added a couple of things but then when I went to look it was blank blank, then next time there was a sweet potato picture superimposed over something. It's gonna take awhile to teach this old gal new tricks but I'll plug along and figure it out; I'm just very impatient and want it all done with one swoop of the magic wand. Rolling on the floor laughing Ok ... I just clicked on the home page and see my forums! Hurray! :hurray

Thank you @Dave/WizardDave! Green Grin!

Just remember, Lin, that you can always reset your homepage back to its default. If you need helping knowing how to do that, let me know.
