Shar beautiful article and what a lucky pup to be in your family! Loved all the comments. Love the name. Let us know if they change it. but am thinking of him as Mambo.

Great tips by the way. Had never heard of them.

When you next see Mambo give him a Group hug

I had never heard of either towel trick & we had cocker spaniels for years. Obviously the 'dad' had not the time to train either dog nor girl. Taking to a shelter was better than dropping off somewhere outside. People have to think before adopting any pet, be it dog or goldfish.

Neighbor didn't look into the habits of rose bush either. A little time & energy for research nescessary in both cases. I should talk--I adopted this computer & till have research to do.

Hello, Mambo! Ha, Sharon, I can just see you sprawled on the ground with that friendly black mountain of a dog all over you and not wanting to leave. You're probably right about the reason, he was missing his girl and well, you aren't big enough to be intimidating! Plus, they know! I hope your son takes him for some obedience training so he won't be pulling your grandson down the street at a run like he is flying a kite! Yes, a little research would have been helpful, aren't attorneys supposed to be fairly good at that?

And...... it's your blog. It doesn't have to be all about plants.
Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most.

It was a bit of a mutual admiration thing, Mary. He was so beautiful i could have been the one to grab him first. He was just faster than I was.

Funny image of Ethan flying like a kite. I'm sure he'd love it! Maybe I should get him a pair of skates, ha!

I think Mambo will be easy to train, by the end of the evening he wasn't sure about 'sit' but if I touched his backend when saying it, down it would go. And I think he's happy.

He is so beautiful.

True about the blog. Thank you!

Mambo is a great name for such an awesomely handsome animal. I hope your son keeps the name!

I am a cat person and think dogs are better off looked at than touched (sorry ), but this guy deserves a lot of attention. He looks like a winner, for sure!

Very nice story, Sharon!

Thanks Nap, nice to see you here.

I mostly like all 4 legged animals, I just can't deal with those that are bigger than I am.

In the picture that you'll see if you click the link, he's a little bit away from me. When he's on his hind legs, he can put his paws on my shoulders, and I'm a little over 5' tall.

That's OK, Flit. You keep him down there, K???

An animal that is within 15 pounds of me soakin' wet and with shoes on is somewhat intimidating. Not to mention the height factor.

I feel a little better with a few hundred miles between us, beautiful though he is.

Sharon & I are about the same size & I can tell you it can be mighty scary when a dog that size jumps up on you. Not from fear of the dog but from fear of breaking vital parts of us. My signature line says it all & I love 'em big, small & in between but I like the big ones better when they are trained NOT to jump up on people.

I agree, ladies -- it's all about the training. Smiling My boy is well-trained, and I'm pretty much the only one he jumps on, and that's rare. I allow it when I'm picking him up from his vacation home after I've been on a business trip, cause I love how happy he is to see me then.

I still remember my first visit to a kennel at a greyhound track. The dogs were in their turnout pen, outside. Then the trainer opens the door and 20-30 dogs all run inside at the same time, and notice NEW PEOPLE!!! Talk about chaos, and being overwhelmed/intimidated! Most greyhounds love meeting new people - much like Mambo loved meeting Sharon.

and one last gratuitous picture, of my other dog, Casey.
