Thread OP

Hello! I have a snake plant that was my grandmothers. She passed away in 1978 and I remember her having it for years. It flowered for me back in the 1980's. This is my question, does anyone think it will flower again? Thank you all for this great site!

There are bloom pics here: Snake Plant (Dracaena trifasciata)

IDK about all species but S. trifasciata is monocarpic. Like a Bromeliad, each rosette can bloom once. After that, the mama rosette can live for quite a long time, and keep forming new pups. As each pup reaches its' maturity, it will bloom, then continue the colonization process of forming more pups.

I've had my oldest kind for over 20 yrs, given to me by my Gramma who had had that plant for 40-50 yrs.

Here's a pic of one pot from 2002.

Those are some of my oldest plant pics, when I first got a digital camera. The plants of that kind that I have now are the same ones & their never-ending pups.

I also started with a snake plant that was my mothers'. That plant stayed with me for well over 40 years and bloomed often. Started with S. trifasciata Laurentii (yellow margins) which later gave me the all green ones S. trifasciata. Both pots grew over 4 ft. tall. I used tomato cages to help keep the leaves in order.

The bloom that I got in 2001 was the only one in a period of about 15 yrs. Over the past 6 yrs or so, since I've been repotting plants often, I've had at least a dozen blooms.
