I believe this is my noid miniature catt. It likes to bloom about 2 to 3 times a year it's one of my favorite orchids I got.

It was a gift from a orchid collector. When he gave it to me he said he lost the tag years ago and couldn't remember the name.I've had it for about 4 years now

I spent the entire day out in the OC and discovered an infestation of soft scale. The more I looked, the worse it became. I wound up pitching about 40 plants and many others got a soaking in 3 gallons of water with Orthene. Talk about a big stink but it was the only way for me to be sure the medium was clean. With my schedule and the heat of the summer, I just didn't get out there enough. It is a good time to clean, spray and wash the windows. I think I had too many orchids anyhow. When they are all crowded up, it reduces the air circulation and it is hard to see the sneaky scale. Besides, Rafael's sale is next weekend and the November Apopka trip can't be far off. I need the space. The garden club will meet here next Thursday and the Orchid club board meeting is here the first week of December. Time to clean and organize.

Elaine, will you be here for Rafael's sale? Lindsey and I will probably come down.

count me in on that road trip , Jim...I've never been to see Rafael's greenhouse but I've been drooling over other folks plants that came from there. Sorry to hear about your scale infestation...it doesn't take long to blossom..

Absolutely, I'm looking forward to it. Are you coming on Friday morning? Patty will be there selling her lovely beaded orchid baskets.

I fly home to FL on Monday. It's always fun to come here and see the kidlets but my back is aching and I'm nearly ready to sit still on a plane for a day on the way home. Funny thing about little kids, they don't stay little but they still want to be picked up.

I've also planted two forsythia, three honeysuckle vines and three crabapple trees. Didn't have to dig the holes but they were sale plants and horribly root-bound so I struggled with each one.

Just popped in for a moment and Jim gave me a heart attack....Rafael's sale is November 4 and 5...NOT next weekend! Good lord, I knew I was at the pumpkin Festival for 2 more weekends before I go to Rafael's! Take a breather Jim, you have two more weeks!
(Sorry to hear about your infestation! Throwing away 40 plants...I would have a heart attack again!) Sticking tongue out

Heath, I love your splash petal Cattleya, very cute! Lovey dubby

Jim, that is a lot of work!!
Wouldn't it be wonderful if we didn't have to deal with Scale?
I already discovered yesterday a small infestation of Mealies on one side of the Jumellea comorensis. And that after only one month inside!!
Luckily it is warm enough (until tonight) to treat the plant with Bayers and let the whole mess get washed off in the rain outside right now. Have to keep an eye on that one. Neighboring plants were all clean! So far!!

With 2 more flowers.. these are still very slow to open, and ( so far) are not exhibiting the brown streaks that the other spike had

They are pretty and interesting to know there is no brown streaking on the flowers.

Some small repeat bloomers here today -
Pleurothallis allenii is never that happy outside in Summer and it usually starts blooming after I bring it inside in the Fall.

Brassokeria Mayan Spirit is a small plant, it flowers every so often without a real season.

The Aerangis biloba came years ago from Hoosier Orchids. Unfortunaly some buds aborted on the larger spike. I am still happy to see new growth and blooms on this old plant.
See the typical notched leaves.

And Bl Tiny Kiss manages to bloom again

In this context I thought you might enjoy seeing this piece of Glass Art!
It was somewhere around 2005 when one of the gentlemen at work, a Chemist :-), showed us examples of his wonderful art work, which he did in his spare time.
I managed to inspire him to do this piece here when I showed him my Aerangis biloba in bloom and asked him if he might work with that. I remember myself begging just a bit because I really liked his work, I thought the way he constructed his pieces was very unusual?

The blooms are three-dimensional and I love the way he fashioned the spurs from wires. Although I never had a Cat, he liked the idea of the Cat in the window. So do I!
