I plant sat for my neighbor and she had purslane in a pot that really looked nice. So I bought some, put it in a pot on my patio and it has looked good all summer. That's quite a feat in our heat! So now what? I don't really have a place to bring it inside, but can shelter it from the worst of the cold on the patio. Will it come back? I'm zone 8,central (ish) Texas about an hour north of Houston and a 1 1/2 hour east of Austin and our winters vary from ice storms to practically no freezes at all. thanks for any help.

Welcome teacup Welcome! Welcome!

I don't have an answer but putting it in a protected area should certainly help.

Hopefully someone will come along and give you a definitive answer Crossing Fingers!

Welcome!

If it's not brought indoors it may not survive. But being that it's so inexpensive, you can start all over again next year. Late spring is when you'll see it in the nurseries. Purslane loves heart!

Thanks for the welcome. You are correct that it wasn't expensive so I can replace it. Won't hurt to just put in in a sheltered location and see. Last winter was extremely mild so it was almost an entire winter when I hardly wore a jacket at all.

None of mine came back. Those in the ground didn't bloom as well as my neighbor's ..

We actually lost a few things last year that were surprising. We had a few really sharp cold snaps followed by warm ups. I think everything was confused.

We got down to 7 degrees this year which is very unusual for us.

Well then looks like I'll keep collecting seeds and get a pot with a few clippings from each ready to bring in come December 😔
