This is my first time growing fennel and it is growing beautifully, but no bulbs. Do they come later or do I need to do something to get them?

Are you growing Florence fennel?
It requires a lot of water,if too hot or dry
Sometimes it bolts and dose not produce the desired ''bulb''
I do not think it is too late . when did you plant it ?

I've got four fennels growing. Another question - how do you know when to harvest them? They are bulbing up but are not as big as the ones I've gotten at the local farmers market. They do smell wonderful though.

I grow them successfully here...but we are not HOT!!! Lots of water....the bulbs form slowly. BTW, I was told not to plant them in the garden with the other vegies...but I already had... Confused but it didn't affect them at all. They are growing beautifully... that green stuff on my head is fennel!!!!!
It's all about choices.

Hehehe, love that hair doo, Carol! I always wanted green hair when I was a kid; parents had me eating green sherbet/ice cream to convince me it would go green. (I must've eaten too much vanilla cus now I'm blond.)

Ditto on the fennel growing. I've planted it right in the garden with other crops and it did just fine; the other crops were not affected by their neighbor either. It took a while to bulb up so patience (and water) is a virtue.
