Anyone grow Granny Grimmetts? http://www.helpmefind.com/gard... HMF doesn't have much info on it. Need to know approx. how why does it get. I got it as a teensy little bitty band last year, and it still is a teensy little itty bitty band this year, so I'm moving it from where it's at now (heavily shaded) to a place that it should be much happier.

Sorry, I don't grow it, but it's also quite difficult to figure out what you want to know.

oh god

lolllllllllllllllllllllllllllll

Well, to be 100% honest, I had started a new supplement today to help with weight loss. And, to be 100% honest, for someone who hasn't had an ounce of caffeine since January 29th, 2011, and then takes over 600 mg's of caffeine this morning, I was hyped up like a squirrel on meth. I shook, I had the jitters, I bounced.. I got LOTS done :D I *like* that stuff. As to whether or not I'll lose any weight is to be determined, but I'll only be taking this stuff on the weekends as, from what I just read with what you quoted me, I was making NO sense. I know I worried my DH & best friend.. I was bouncing off the walls like a 6 year old who drank a 2liter of Jolt cola.

What I was TRYING to say was:

Need to know approximately how BIG it gets. Why in HELL did I put how why? That makes less sense than I normally do.

As I said, I don't grow this rose, but the hybrid perpetuals I do grow usually are about 4-5 feet tall and 3-4 feet wide. Those are only ballpark figures, Toni.

I grew Granny Grimmets in NJ. Bought it from Antique Rose Emporium. It is certainly a hybrid perpetual, which means it typically makes long canes, but it is not as stick-like as some HPs. The flowers are a lovely maroonish dark red that can work well in the garden, especially with peonies and iris. I planted it where it got a little too much shade and it stayed smallish, never reaching three feet. I think it gave up after about three or four years. Given good conditions five feet high would be about what I'd expect, too. In my own gardens, the only roses to reach terminal height in ten years were Knockout and Constance Spry.

My belief - based on my own experience with caffeine - is that caffeine is like many other addictive drugs. Increasing the dosage feels better and better until you get totally strung out. Then you quit, crash, become totally dysfunctional, get headaches and nausea and wish you were dead. The ride up can be a lot of fun, but I don't think I could do that weekly even if it made me as rich, famous, and good looking as Brad Pitt and as smart as a typical Nobel prize winning physicist. Of course caffeine affects different people differently. Sometimes a strong cup of coffee puts me to sleep. Good luck.
