I was so shocked by this news; I thought Sharon would be with us for many years to come. She went way before her time was up.

I always loved her Aunt Bett articles from way back when, and we spoke together often about her writings. Back in 2010, when DG/IB gave me the boot, she was one of the most encouraging people to us, prodding us on and letting us know that she believed in us. Looking back at our email exchanges, I see how much of an influence she had in our starting Cubits and later ATP and now Garden.org. She was the 3rd non-family member to join Cubits when it was originally launched. Her contributions and encouragements to us were a gigantic help at that time.

She played a large part in forming the initial community that still gathers together at Cubits and Garden.org. Her presence will continue to be felt in this community long after her passing.

Trish and I will never forget her friendship, her loyalty, and the compassion she showed the people around her.

Dave & Trish - Please allow her posts and many, many wonderful articles to remain here on NGA. They are priceless and a precious reminder of such a special woman and her remarkable life.

I feel so very fortunate to have known her (even if it was just through posts, articles, and emails on DG, Cubits, and ATP/NGA).

Oddly enough, the song, "Stairway to Heaven" by Led Zeppelin has been going through my head ever since I read the post about her passing. Heart's version of the song:

I found out about this a few hours ago, but had some prior commitments and so really couldn't check here to see if the news had spread, but I'm glad that it did. I personally loved her like the mom I didn't have and will truly miss her greatly. As I mentioned on her FB page, she may have left us physically, but she will always be with us in our hearts.

I am a strong believer in the simple fact is that what matters in this life is how we treat others. I think that's what living is all about. Not what I've done in my life but how I've treated others.

Hetty, I wasn't physically with her - we texted back and forth beginning Friday afternoon and through the night until she went into surgery Saturday morning.

Of course Sharon being Sharon, around 2:30 am she said - you better get some sleep Lovey dubby I told her I was taking cat naps between our texts.

It was actually Toni (skiekitty) that called and told me Sharon had passed away. Toni knew I wasn't on Facebook so she called to tell me.

I've said this to Trish and Dave many times over the years and it's especially true this evening - Thank you both for the wonderful, lasting, sweet, precious friendships all because of the two of you! God Bless you both Group hug Group hug

I was not on her facebook account, so didn't know about her surgery. But I do remember her mentioning something about possible future surgery not too long ago.

What surgery did she have? I assume she did not survive the surgery? So sad. Crying

I will miss her here too, she was always chiming in with the neatest things. Loved the pictures of her garden and her stories, and her paintings also. Won't be the same without her here. Sad

I believe that she was going in as she had a blood clot in her arm.

This is something I found on her FB page. Smiling

This was Alyn's message on Facebook via Skiekitty:

Yesterday morning mom went into surgery at Lourdes to have a blood clot removed. Unfortunately there were complications that led to a stroke and she was airlifted to Vanderbilt. Agueda Formoso Mayan, Ashley Brown, Matt and I drove down to Nashville last night to be with her. She was responsive but the stroke had been bad. She got progressively worse through the night and passed away this afternoon. Ashley and I are working through all of the details and arrangements now and appreciate your thoughts and prayers.

I am so terribly saddened to hear this. I feel like I lost a family member. I loved Sharon's stories so much. Along with gardening, a big hobby of mine is genealogy. My father is from West Virginia and my family moved from Virginia to Eastern Kentucky during the Civil War so I was pretty familiar with the areas Sharon wrote about. I liked to imagine the stories she told about Aunt Bett were stories that might have been handed down in my family. I liked to think about my ancestors using the same plants and herbal remedies that Sharon wrote about. I think we all learned so much from her and knowing that voice has been extinguished has me in tears. I will miss her so much, but I'm sure one day we will meet in that big garden in the sky.

Toni and Larry - Thank you for letting us know what happened.

How old was Sharon? She seemed ageless to me.

If anyone has a link to her obituary, would you please post the link here.

I got to type to and know Sharon when she asked about my avatar and we got to talking about paintings. I was very honored that she shared with me her thoughts regarding what motivated her and what she achieved thru her painting. I hope you all don't mind that I post some of what she shared with me so that I can share back with you, Becky, and all of you that loved Sharon as I have loved Sharon.

Sharon said: ... I've had no time to think of art. But to answer your immediate question, I usually paint in acrylics and mostly I paint from memory, plants and landscapes, sometimes other things. I've done several portraits, but drive myself crazy because I am a perfectionist.

I am not a realist as is your husband, but more representational realism, with a touch of the abstract. I paint to create feelings, emotions, reactions and I paint also those things I feel inside. I guess I paint emotions, more that what I see in front of me. And most of the time, I'm inspired by things of nature. Here are a few, most have been sold.

Bev - Thank you for sharing that correspondence from Sharon. I had not seen some of those paintings before, so what a lovely treat to see them now. Sharon had a big heart and I believe it was reflected in her paintings, her garden, her posts, and her stories .... just to mention a few. This world was brighter because of her and now it seems a little dimmer. Sad

I'm stunned to learn of this; what a grievous loss to all who knew her. We have corresponded with her on a regular basis for 4 years, ever since she asked me if she could do one of her 'Garden Tours' series on my garden. I was one proud little gardener when so honored.
Our last exchange but 2 weeks ago.
From her suggestion, Plato (the dog in my avatar) was so named. I hope someone there is taking care of Sunshine, she so loved her dog.
Glad she got to see her daughter wed, though I think that kind of exhausted her...then, in early September she said "I think I'm getting back to normal"...This is so sad. We will truly miss her

Just a thought .... for those of you who had not already thought of this, you can go to Sharon's username here on NGA and scroll down her profile to see the list of articles that she wrote here for all of us. A gentle reminder of how special a person she was ....:
