Thread OP

Hello all,

I got this cactus about 6 months ago, but when I repotted it I forgot to keep the original plastic pot it came in, which had its type/species and information about it. It has been doing quite well anyway, and has grown quite a bit. I keep it cactus-specific potting mix outside in its pot (with a hole in the bottom for drainage), getting good sun every day, and watering it every 2 weeks. My questions are:

1. Based on the attached image, what type of cactus do I have?
2. How do I care for it during a cold and potentially snowy winter?

Cheers!

Welcome! to NGA

Its most likely an Echinopsis - you will know for sure when it blooms. No not cold hardy. Before temps dip below about 40F, bring it in.

Thanks! So if I bring it in for the winter, what other steps should I take? Can it handle not getting sun for 4-5 months? Is regular indoor light okay for this time?

It will still need adequate light. Water sparingly - maybe once a month.
