I sure hope you're still OK, Anne. I'm guessing you have no power or internet and pray that you are safe and sound. News clips of SC look pretty bad...

Hi,

Still here .. we lost power Saturday around 1pm - got it back late last night .. generator was awesome but very noisy. When I got up phone, cable and internet was back.

Greenhouse came through it with no problems .. no damage to my house or property and minimal flooding.

I'll write more later.

Well I'm delighted to say we didn't get any damage to the house or the greenhouse - my brother reminded me that the greenhouse kit came with tie downs so I found them and we got it tied down .. no flooding either, even though we got a total of 9¾ inches of rain in less than 24 hours. All we got were a few limbs down, and not very big ones at that and leaves ... tons and tons of leaves so the big 'reveal' when I got up this morning wasn't traumatic at all. Some neighbors at the other end of the street near the main road weren't so lucky .. two houses had very large trees fall on their roofs.

We lost power on Saturday around 1pm and it came back at midnight same day! Also lost the cable, telephone and internet about the same time but when I woke up this morning all was up and running. The generator was awesome! We had it on the back porch. Our good friend Betsy the electrician made us a 'pig tail' for the generator which was wired to the main panel and let us keep pretty much everything running in the house including the refrigerator! We did turn off the big draw appliances like the washer/dryer, stove, microwave and the a/c. I have a small propane camp stove so last night I heated up some canned beef stew with it and we had that and some bread and a salad for dinner. My sister Lynne & I martyred ourselves and let our father have the last of the chocolate pudding for dessert - He flew in from Maine last Wednesday after seeing my brother and sister in-law to visit. He still wanted to come even though a major hurricane was headed our way .. he's 95 years old. After dinner we decided to watch the Titanic movie - we thought it was appropriate whilst Hurricane Matthew was banging around. I made a short video of the back yard during the height storm and when I get around to editing it I'll put a link up.

After getting the necessities done this morning to the back yard I decided to just concentrate on getting the house back in order today. I'll start again on the yard tomorrow get it cleaned up and plants ready to go into the greenhouse for Winter. I put the bird feeders and bird bath out first thing this morning and they have been flocking to both of them all day. There is this one huge Robin who has been in it 3 times (at least I think it's the same one) today which makes me think he got really, really dirty or has a little bathing OCD. Haven't seen our favorites, the Blue Birds yet, the Carolina Wood Pecker showed up a few minutes ago - I was worried about him too.

All & all we were blessed.
