Hi all. So I've heard that peppermint repels spiders amongst other things that don't usually work, however I've not tried out peppermint yet and I'd love to grow some peppermint and try the experiment to see if it really does repel spiders. I like most insects, reptiles and other things but spiders are just something else I'm not afraid of all spiders just a specific kind which freak the hell out of me when I see one and I have had problems in the past with these spiders, they are really big and move so fast I hate them.

Has anybody grown peppermint to repel spiders?

I'm not sure about spiders but peppermint repels my daughter pretty fast.

If you breath enough peppermint, you get a little woozy and weird (I decided to rip out a strip that was about 10 x 40 feet one time). So maybe the spiders just get dizzy and wander off in a different direction.

Apparently it does work after a fashion - the spiders will only stay off the surfaces you treated and re-treatment will be necessary. So if you put your peppermint plant in the window sill, spiders won't walk on your peppermint plant but they will still be in your windowsill.

My daughter gave me an infuser and some essential oils including peppermint. I put it in my greenhouse to see if it would chase off the spiders. I think they enjoyed the scent. They didn't leave as I'd hoped.

Lol maybe I need extend my grow lights into my bedroom and surround the base of my bed with peppermint lol. I remember last year I had 2 of those spiders on my bed I'd never forget that moment, it still freaks me out to this day when thinking about it.

I've always got a can of bugs spray to hand although this don't kill the spiders right away I literally have to drown them with the stuff in order to slow them down to where I can grab the nearest object to flatten them lol

I'm the same way. I love spiders who stay in their webs and I know about them. The ones I hate are running around the house and greenhouse and crawling up into beds. Yuck!

I had some black widow spiders in my kitchen although there not native to the UK there has been an out burst of them in the south of the UK recently. The black widow spiders never bothered me and those don't freak me out as there not big and creepy looking and keep out of my way and if a few step out of line then I grab a container and capture them, then drown them in very hot water lol I know there bite can be bad. The female ones however aren't venomous just the male ones which are the ones that have red spots on them with a black shiny body.

Yep sorry lol my mistake, the females have the red spots . Nope there the same as ours

Black Widow Spiders can get pretty big and their bite puts some people in the hospital. I get bit at least once a year - for me, its like having heat stroke. Then the donut bruise forms around the fang marks...(that's when I figure it out).

Daughter #1 had one on the front of her house - it was high up so she sprayed it with hornet spray. A couple hours later, Daughter #2 (the peppermint hater) came by on her way home. She said a big black spider fell out of the sky and landed at her feet.

Daughter #2 is terrified of Camel Spiders. Apparently, people are finding them in Las Vegas. Las Vegas is a 10 hour drive south of Reno but Daughter #2 is pretty worried about them.

Ewww omg camel spiders I've heard a lot about those, they are definitely something from a horror the thought just sends shivers down my spine. I can live with black widows although I don't particularly like them I can live with them I just hope I never get bitten by one I'm pretty good at controlling them though.

Oh my Daisy! How in the world do you get bitten so much? We've lived in Arizona and NM with them for years, but fortunately haven't had any bites yet. I have to watch it in my greenhouse. I have raised beds with wooden railings I can sit or stand on. They love to make a web underneath the ledges.

I've only been bitten once this year and that was in my daughter's garage. She got bitten the same day.

I used to get bittten several times a year out in the barn in CA. In Reno, Black Widows are harder to come by.
