If anyone wants it (in the USA) I harvested some Amlarylis Picote pollen this morning. Send me your mailing address and I will mail it to you.
Flower is white with a red thread along the edge of the petal. There is a small amount of red stippling on the petals.

Hi Christie, quite a few of us here have Amaryllis, but I have not heard of anyone in this group having tried hybridization - speak up if you have! Green Grin! Our adventure seems only go as far as keeping baby bulbs, haha! nodding I used to toss all the baby bulbs. I kept a few for the first time last year and grew them over the summer this year. They are in the picture below. I will keep them in the garage over the winter. Hope they don't come out of dormancy until next spring because I have no sunny place for them inside the house.

I recently read through many threads on the Amaryllis forum, and saw some fantastic flower pictures and enthusiastic gardeners there. Thumbs up Do you mainly go after very rare and exotic varieties? It takes years to grow a flowering bulb from seed. I can understand that the result can be very rewarding, especially when the cross produces an interesting flower.

The mid Atlantic group is a very active group. It is full of friendly and knowledgeable people. Hope you hang out with us more often.
Welcome! Welcome! Welcome!

Edit to say ooooops! I saw your posts in the Mid Atlantic forum and thought I was posting from there. It must be confusing when I said nobody "here" had hybridized amaryllis. Haha!

@Donnerville - Last winter I crossed Picotee x Naranja. Sprouted the seeds last April. Figure 3 years until I get a flower. Not sure what I will get, but hoping for an orange flower with a red thread on the edge. I don't know enough about genetics to know if that is possible or not though. Shrug! From what I have read, I should get even more interesting flowers if I breed this generation with itself - of course THAT would take ANOTHER 3 years! Keep your fingers crossed! Crossing Fingers!

Your babies look pretty healthy to me. Hurray! I just got a Papillio bulbette that I hope to grow bigger. I figure if I get too many bulbs, then I certainly should know someone who might want it. I did give a way a few of my hybrids to a couple of friends - that way, if one of us kills them, there will still be some remaining! Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing I think it's nice to meet other Amaryllis growers - we can share ideas -- and maybe some seeds and baby bulbs too on occasion. nodding
