I just got my first Lithops (Stone Face) cactus this summer and to my surprise it blossomed! I didn't know it would do that, and I am happy I saw it when it did, because I hear cactus blossoms may last only a day. I guess he likes it here! I also have a Pleiospilos nelii(split rock), but it hasn't bloomed. These little jems are a wonderful addition to my plant family!

Those little things are amazing. So healthy. Having the discipline to not overwater is a skill I admire, Very impressive. You are the stone face whisperer!!

Fantastic! One of mine bloomed soon after I got it in 2013 but I haven't seen any new blooms since.

Lauriebasler,
LOL! Actually, my watering discipline is definitely not a skill - I am sure my other plants think its a curse! I am one of those who water when I think of it D'Oh! , but luckily my plants have just learned to adjust. Smiling

Hi & welcome, Vlngrl!

Your question is worth of the attention of a separate discussion, IMVHO. All pairs of eyes that visit this forum would see it that way. As it is, only those who find it within this discussion about pics of blooms would see it. I'm sorry I can't offer an anecdote, not something I've done. Best luck!

Does anyone know what instigates a Lithops to bloom? Except for a couple pics added by Admin that may just be dated the day the pic was added & not the day the plant was photographed, all of the pics of Lithops blooming in the general genus entry are from Oct. & Nov. Sounds like a short-day bloomer.

I have never grown Lithops but they're supposed to wake up in late summer/fall and bloom around that time. Probably related to the shortening days. Here's somebody's notebook on the subject...

Yeah, on 300 or 400 plants, from the looks of things. Pretty serious collector, evidently.

I'm exactly the opposite. I just have one. Well it was technically a pair when I got it, now it's a quartet. The petals were starting to break free of the sepals last night.

I think this flower is very shy. It started to open yesterday, sorry I didn't get pics added yet, but this morning it's completely closed again.
