need some help. Not sure if the image is clear enough. How do I know if my papaya tree is male or female or bisexual.

There’s a big flower bud at the bottom which looks like a female then there is a thin long bud on top which looks like a male. Do I still need to do pollination?

Can't tell from your picture, sorry. Need a closer look at the flowers, please. But you'll know soon anyway, because if your plant is self-pollinating the female flower will make a fruit. It may not do this for the very first flowers, but more will be coming along soon.

But, now that I'm looking again at your picture, is the plant growing indoors, or inside a screened enclosure? If it is, you will need to help with pollination probably. No insects will dependably find your flowers.

Hopefully these pictures are clearer. It’s outdoor actually.

Those are female, or complete flowers. Can't tell without seeing directly inside the flower, but you do have a fruit that has formed, so if it keeps on developing, then you had pollination happen, which means your tree is self-pollinating.

Male flowers are much smaller, and are in a spray or panicle that hangs down from the tree's stem. They're pretty and fragrant too. So IF that fruit you have there withers up and falls off, it's possible your tree is female. You'd need to grow another tree, a male to ensure pollination.

That's a male flower panicle.

Damn, I bought it as a hermaphrodite, now it has changed. I suppose I will have to kill it and start again!

Thanks though.

Nope, if you have another tree that has female or complete flowers, it will attract bees and enhance pollination. But (sad but true) it won't give you any fruit unless it puts on complete flowers later in the game. No idea if it will or not.

The annoying thing with papayas is you really don't know what it's going to be until it flowers.
