I used to bid/win DL plants/seeds on the LA years ago. Timeline (from looking at my feedback) is from May 12, 2004 - August 28, 2000. Just thought I'd mention it to y'all.

I had positive experiences from these sellers (don't know if all of them are still selling, but I see some are still selling)....

The only negative experience I had during that time was with a seller named Lucy (a male seller). I didn't leave a negative feedback, but should have. I never got the correct DL (wrong bloom/color) I paid for, even after getting Mike Longo involved.

I just started up bidding and winning 2 DL's yesterday!

So would you say buying from pretty much anyone on the auction is safe? It looks like Mike Longo sorts out the bad apples pretty well.

I'm still afraid to get my feet wet there.

Another question. Is there anyway to go right to the sellers negative or neutral feedback? If a seller has a ton of feedback, and I don't want to read each one, just the negatives?

Mike Longo runs the LA, right? I see the numbers are listed separately, but can you read the comments for the negatives without going through all the comments?

Yes he does. I don't know if you can see them specifically either. The only way I have found is to just look through them all.

Of course there is the flower named after him!

Thanks Laura!

I was just thinking when it shows some negative feedback, and it's way back, it might be because the daylily is not true to name? Can you leave negative feedback a year later if it doesn't bloom correctly?

I'm more concerned with blooming correctly than anything else. I seem to be able to get them to survive OK, LOL.

I have been buying daylilies on the lily auction (use a different name on the LA) since 2001 well over 300 purchases from 126 sellers. Only one was not a good daylily never purchased from that person again and they no longer sell on the auction (not a pricey daylily). I pay attention to feedback looking for a lot it indicates they have been selling for a long time and know what customers want. This year I purchased from a first time seller because of her description and was very happy with my purchase. When I see a daylily I like I check out the feedback if the feedback is OK I will make a bid. I know that I have been very lucky with my purchases only a couple of times were the plants very small but some plants make small fans and all of them grew and bloomed.

The one thing is that I do not often bid on single fans as double fans grow better here in the north. I am no longer making many purchases my garden is full so something has to leave to make room for something new. WIthout the LA there would not be near as many daylilies in my garden and no they are not all dormants there are also sev's and some ev as well. The LA is very addictive and I still check it out you never know what treasure you may find just stick to a budget.
If you want to be happy for a lifetime plant a garden!

I have been fortunate in that most have been correct. I have had a few that were not. Two that were incorrect I unfortunately could not remember who I had bout it from (I keep better records now). The last time the seller actually comtacted me before it was shipped to tell me that her historic daylily that she had had for years might not be what she thought it was and asked me if I still wanted her to ship it or did I want me money back. I said to go ahead and ship as I had wanted it for the flower. She did ship it and gave me a choice of other plants she had that were in the same price range as a bonus replacement.

I chose Condilla which I had seen on her web site and loved.
Can't find a photo from my garden but have a few I took at the AHS Region 14 meeting in 2011

I have found sellers very responsive to replacing incorrect plants.

Mary Jane Meadows (Bubbles) sent me a replacement plant several years after it was in my garden once it was discovered to be the wrong one. (I got to keep the other one too, which was a similar flower so all was well.)

I am pretty much a "newbie"--just got one daylily in 2011---first time to get a plant from the LA--I received SM. World Snow Owl from Abundantdaylilies, and the plant is excellent. So, I did more bidding and in the fall of 2011 planted Golliwog and Beautiful Edgings from Greengal in WI. These bloomed beautifully this year, and the plants were large roots primarily when they arrived here in Oct. 2011--Beautiful Edgings is still blooming, has maybe ten more buds. From Hemguy, Elko, and Jimx, and Junemark received one plant apiece and even received bonus plants from a couple of them. Every one has done extremely well. I did multiple orders from Goldcoast, Curve, Thelilypad, and Bubbles, never received a bad plant and only one didn't bloom this summer. Oh, yes, did get another dl from Abundantdaylilies, and it is fine. I always check the feedback section on the sellers, and I go back a way in hopes that the seller has a good long history. I have only seen a few negative comments and I stay away from those sellers.

I'm hoping to get Fred's RUFFLED PINK PERFECTION today (I'm "Anotheririslady") -- I just love the pinks, and he has great plants too! Another seller I think is really great is Mljomo (James Hall), who Michele works with. He has a whole bunch on right now.

Betty, hope you get it. I am always of two minds when both the seller and bidder are members here.: who do I cheer for? You want the seller to get the best price for their plant, but also want the buyer to win at the lowest price.
