What a lovely color. Very nice.

I have been on the CactusGuide.com forum for some help identifying a few of my older plants.
Those people really know their cactus. They identified the orchid cactus I inherited as
Genus= Disocactus&species=hybridus which basically is a Red Orchid Cactus. This is a shot of the bottom blooms that just opened.

Thumb of 2011-12-19/JB/848ead

The also identified my little one I call Petra's Pink as a True Christmas Cactus. There is quite a bit of confusion as to trying to identify these old plants. This I thought was a russelliana but in fact it could be a xbuckleyi. So, I am just going to sell it as a True Christmas Cactus. The first bloom is so tiny and the plant is so dainty compared to others, I still think it is a russelliana, but what do I know. Here is a shot of the first bloom on a l year old plant.

Hope you all enjoy your Christmas with those wonderful Cactus blooming and spreading their joy. Gosh , they make me so happy when I see a new bud....it is so rewarding when they show off your efforts by blooming at the right time. Rolling on the floor laughing

Yes, that's a true Christmas Cactus. Sherry/Keystone helped with a very informative article about the Schlumbergera here on ATP and she is quite knowledgeable with IDs as are several others here as well.

I don't know about anyone else, but I do enjoy tossing the IDs around. That's the way I learn about some of the plants.

Anyway, glad you got ID confirmation. Good for you. Thumbs up

Just thought I'd restate (for anyone new coming along) that Epiphyllum X ackermannii or 'Ackermannii' has been moved to the genus Disocactus.

I am so glad you reminded us. I remembered seeing that someplace and I could not remember where. Thank you.

I really am not sure how much good the actual ID of these plants do me other than they let me know that I am not misrepresenting the plants to anyone I sell to. I do not want to ever sell something that is not represented properly. This hobby of mine has become a very time consuming project. Shrug! Especially when you get as particular as I have regarding IDing
specific plants. I do think when people trade it would be nice to know exactly what they are trading. The everyday person really does not care I guess. Only those of us who got carried away with our hobbies care. There are two questions I usually get from customers.
1. Can I put this in the sun ? 2. How often do I water this?? I know the answers to those.

I am off to get some Christmas Wrapping done. We closed the Tree Farm yesterday because we ran out of trees except for 2 already cut and business was very slow. We all have other things to do this week especially. Have a great day and thanks again for all your help.

Just wanted to share this beauty with you. It is one of my old Schllumbergera x buckleyi and
it has not stopped blooming since Sept. I love this plant. It and several like it that grew from it, as one of my best selling starter plants. It is a wonderful plant to have. The other two of the same plant are resting. It is time to take cuttings soon, so I feel sure it will stop blooming in a few weeks. I do not force any of my Holiday plants because I love enjoying them for six months or more out of the year. I just work around them with cuttings. LOL

Most of my hybrids that are called Zygocactus because of where I purchased them, are blooming also. The remind me of the little pink bunny that just keeps going and going and going.

I think I mentioned in here that I was playing around with cross pollination. Well I think I did a good job, what do you think? Three of my plants have berries. These two are the most loaded ones. I knocked off the berries off a few of them and my nieces boyfriend almost "dead headed" a few lol.

How long do I wait before I can harvest the seeds?!?

Cool, tiki, looks like an excellent job. Someone will come along who knows about growing them from seeds. I don't. I've always had cuttings. Green Grin!

I know it'll take a long time for the fruit to ripen, I'm just not sure how long. Seed starting is a whole other thing - All I know about starting from seed is that it will take many many many years before it blooms. Good thing I like the foliage.

I actually didn't expect so many to "take". I just squished together blooms and my kitty Delilah helped by rubbing her face on each bloom.

I am not sure if I got this from this group or not, but does anyone remember the HappyHobbyhabit.blogspot.com/2010/10/01/schljmbergera-seed-pictorial.html ??????

I printed it out but I am not sure the above is correct. It is not too clear on the printout for some reason. It is s pictorial of Schlumbergera Seeds.

I know since I am 83, I am not sure I would live long enough to see one bloom. Hilarious!
