I have my very first ever fall tree peony bud! Purchased this one this spring at Scenic View to the north of Green Bay (thanks again for the resource, Tracey!) and planted it in late July/early August. Was cleaning up the beds today and THERE'S A BUD!!!! But I'm not excited about the development at all, ho hum....RIGHT!!!

Congratulations! Maybe you should put tree peonies and Itoh peonies who are easily to rebloom in Autumn together. Then you have quite a few peonies blooming in Autumn.

It's past the turn brown and fall off stage, probably a week or 10 days from opening. We're getting down into the mid 30s to low 40s at night and up mid 60s during the day, no change in the 7 day forecast. I'll be keeping an eye on the local weather, hoping it at least gets to "marshmallow" stage before the weather turns so it can be cut for inside....I'll post pics if it opens! Can't believe a summer planted tree peony would bloom just a couple of months later. Made my day!

That is so exciting! I hope you will get good weather Liz. Would definitely love to see a pic of it opened. What a treat that will be.

Good luck Liz, I had a bud on Leda this fall but never opened. I covered it on the frosty nights and fertilized it but the temperatures just did not cooperate. I hope you have better luck.
In other news, Hidden Springs opens their site today for 2017! Exciting nodding

Yep, I'll be checking it whenever I'm online today! Said I wasn't ordering much for next year but I'm so excited about their site opening that I know I was just lying to myself....

What about that other site? The one that opens at 1 min past midnight on Jan 1st? Solaris?? No, that is my beauty parlor. lol.

Congrats. I hope it blooms for you. I planted Leda last fall (well, Will at the botanical garden planted it there) and it bloomed this spring. Was so excited to have it, along with another TP bloom first year. I was a little deflated that the guys there (Mike and Will) weren't as excited and pumped as I was. Durn guys!!

It rained yesterday for quite a while. Fortunately the roads were just wet except on sidestreets. We had to drive to Palmer (43+) for one of my grandson's hockey games. Same for today and tomorrow. Hope it stays above freezing or the ice burns off if it forms before this afternoon. Sad

Solaris does open midnight their time Jan 1, so 10pm Dec 31st for me. I'll be online, waiting. After my visit to Solaris and seeing all of the amazing things Nate Brehmer is producing and hearing his philosophy Solaris is going to be my top go-to from now on.

As for the bud, it really doesn't matter immensely if it opens or not, I'm just glad to see this positive sign that I didn't screw everything up immensely by planting them out when I did. It just happened to coincide with when the rains stopped completely here....

Mary, hope you have a safe trip to the grandson's hockey game! Hold, weather, HOLD!

Anna Marie (named for Bill Seild's mother) is a really vigorous plant. Probably the largest peony on my property. Glad to hear yours has settled in and is going gangbusters. Fun!

We're supposed to have really cold weather starting Thursday night so it probably won't actually open. I might just cut it off and bring it inside earlier in the day. I'm really happy that I didn't kill it, planting it out when I did, didn't expect our rainy summer to turn into a drought....

Sorry about the weather. Maybe it is best that you pick the bud so the tree can concentrate its energy on growing roots for next year's flowers.

Hockey game was great. They did well all three games. Not first but not last either. Hurray!

Holding in the 30-40F here with occasional rain. I am rather glad as this will allow the plants that I moved really late to have time to grow a little root in their new homes and wash some of the azomite and top dressing down. Plus I put the bulb fertilizer in the holes and trenches mixed with soil when I planted.

It can snow any day for my money. Am ready for this rain sleet ice to be over. Really isn't bad, just easier to deal with snow. Especially with a nice cozy garage. Rolling on the floor laughing

Does anyone have Kamata Nishiki? I wonder about the color the vendors show online. Maybe I need to look here to see if anyone has posted a picture.

Thanks Mieko. Did I miss it or did the new organization here get rid of the Garden Watchdog?

Mary, here it is called the Green Pages which are under the Tools and Apps at the top. I think that you are remembering another site?
