I have several questions about the Plant Database that probably would have been answered in an introductory sticky message. But, lacking a sticky, I will ask them here.

Can anybody enter a plant in the database, or is special user status required? What is the procedure for adding a new plant into the Plant Database? What is the procedure for adding a new plant with one or more accompanying photos? What is the procedure for adding an additional photo to an existing plant in the Plant Database? Thank You!

Anyone can suggest a new plant be entered into the database, but I believe a moderator has to approve the request. First make sure that the plant is not in the database. When someone looks for a plant and it is not there, often it is a case of misspelling the name while searching. If after searching and you don't think the plant is there, go to the plant database page and you will see a link that says "Add a new plant to the database". Click on that link and fill in the info.
To add a photo, find the plant in the database and look on the left side of the page, there is a link that says "Upload a photo". Click on that, then click on "Upload image", that will open a box showing your computer files. Find the photo on your computer and click open.

Once you get the hang of it, it is quite easy. I do agree, however, that a stickee would be appropriate to set out the basic instructions for adding plants, updating attributes (I'd like to see this encouraged), adding photos, and comments. In particular, I've often seen folks asking questions in the comment section which are unlikely to get much response - usually one of the moderators responds and redirects, but it might be simpler if there was a stickee to refer to.

I'm in the planning stage of putting together a walkthrough video for the database, similar to what I did for the seed swap and homepage customization. That will be helpful, I think.
