All About the Fringe Tree

By Sharon
November 2, 2011

It was an elusive tree. We searched all the way up and down the mountain for what seemed to be years before I finally found the Fringe Tree. I told Aunt Bett we must be on a snipe hunt.

Oh Wow!! You have a fringe tree. That's so fun to know, Linda.
When it blooms again, I hope you'll send pictures. I haven't seen one in bloom in such a long time. I tried one year to get one to grow here, but it met its doom just like the pink dogwood I also tried in the same area another time. I hate to kill another one.

And thanks about Aunt Bett. For whatever it's worth, I still have a few more of her stories to share. She taught me well. *Blush*

Shar: Just had time to read this article about Aunt Bett and the fringe tree. I planted a small one in the yard in Asheville and it's just now reaching blooming size. I'll remember to get photos this spring and post them, but they won't compare with the sight of a row of them lining the street as earlier someone said. What a sight that must be!

I finally found an older photo of our fringe tree from several years ago. It's grown considerably since then. I worry every year, because this is always our last tree to show signs of life in the spring. I think it's well worth the wait--don't you?

Thank you. The beds have filled in considerably since this photo. I can't take credit for the most of the design, though. I'm so thankful we had a wonderful landscape plan designed when we moved in here--I learned about so many new wonderful trees/shrubs to use for my beds. Filling in the flowers was the fun/easy part. I'd never heard nor seen a fringe tree before we did this! So glad we have it, though.

Oh how pretty! It's well worth the wait, Linda, always.

Thanks so much for finding the picture, the tree's beautiful, and so is the rest of your landscape.

Hmmm yes, I'm drooling over that spruce? fir? to the right of the fringe tree. Mmmmmmm it sure smells good --- like Christmas!
