This is one of those things that pop up in one of the pots and you've no idea what it is or where in the world it came from. It's been growing for a couple of years now, rather neglected. Perhaps if I know what it is, I'll repot it and take better care of it....lol
TIA.....
I can't tell the size from your photos. Also would like to see how the leaves come out from the trunk. either Ensete or cast iron plant is my guess. Ensete can get huge, looks like banana, which is a close relative.
Remember that children, marriages, and flower gardens reflect the kind of care they get.

Hmmmm...I did have aspidistra before but it did not have the striped appearance to the leaves. Think the leaves are too stiff to be ensete. Will go take another pic...
I could be wrong...
and.....

Yep..prizes to both of you! I didn't even think of that. I did grow aspidistra once, should have recognized it.
My last 'surprise-in-a-pot' turned out to be strelitzia nicolai...it's now about 5 ft tall..lol...I welcome all volunteers in my pots.
Thanks!

The best clue you gave was "rather neglected". Aspidistra take the prize for surviving neglect. I think the name cast iron refers more to the neglect than the substance of the leaves!
