Empty pill bottles are great containers for saving seed.

I just used one an hour ago for just that purpose! I need to put some labels next to where I store them, though, so I don't have to run back and forth.

I usually use those little plastic bags for seeds, but if I wanted to use medicine bottles, I certainly have enough of them!

Vic: What a great tip! I love this idea and will have to find some medicine bottles to use for seed collecting! I read someplace recently where someone also suggested saving those little silica pouches that come in vitamins etc. that keep the pills dry ... they will also keep the seeds dry. I can't wait to begin collecting seeds this way and labeling will be so easy using sticky back labels.

We're aren't on prescription meds but we take a boatload of supplements. And yes, the silica pouches are in each one. Thumbs up

I'm fortunate that at almost 64 years of age the only medication I take is Advil for the occasional headache or when arthritis flares up but I will be asking friends and family to save their empty pill bottles for me. I can see the look on their faces now when I tell them I want their empty pill bottles! Smiling

Here's an idea for arranging seed packets:

I had a couple of old computer diskette and CD storage boxes with dividers which I had used in my office. Now that I'm facing retirement, I'll be adapting them to alphabetize my seed packets. Works better than the index boxes I've been using because they're larger and give me greater capacity.

I like the pill bottle idea as well. DH just gave me some of his old ones for this very purpose. How timely with your tip!

Depending on how many seeds of one kind you have, I save my herb bottles like Shillings. My poppies yield enough seeds to fill one of those easily. Also any small jars from my ongoing battle with eye wrinkles l0l. Quite often the stuff comes in little containers of about one or two tablespoon size.

After seeing Vic's tip I began collecting a few pill bottles and they've made great seed storage with the exception of seeds for my Butterfly Pea vine. The seeds got moldy so I had to dump them. I've still got seeds from that plant in an envelope and I may transfer them to one of the plastic pill bottles but will first put holes in the bottle top for air circulation.
