I did a few from ground plants & had one pot of mostly ornamental purslane (P. umbraticola) that I brought in. I didn't have much mass to work with after 3 months of no rain, or time to do it. Lots of time spent with the hose & I wasn't able to water all areas. Some things died off months ago, while it was still HOT.

can't wait to see how they do. As for me, no I didn't but I haven't yanked them either. I'm hoping some of them will re-seed. Stay tuned...

This weekend I started taking cuttings from the plants in pots (that were themselves cuttings a few months ago) to put in the ground wherever I want a plant. Let the fun begin!

The plants in the first container have been there for either 2 or 3 years. The 2nd container was put together about a year ago, both have other plants but I think you can see the P. umbraticola leaves among the others.



Little cuttings stuck in the ground about 3 weeks ago look great already! So much reward for so little effort.

Good luck! They didn't have any when I went. I may or may not be able to get back over there this year.

It will definitely be later before they get Purslane or Portulaca. Usually late May, somewhere around there.

Every weekend I've been taking cuttings of my plants & sticking them all along my borders. Some of the roots from last year survived the mild winter and are growing foliage again too. So exciting! Should have swaths of blooms soon.

Stuck this stem in the drain hole of a pot a few weeks ago & it's starting to bloom.


Caught some blooms open yesterday. My new nickname for this is weekend plant. I only get to see the blooms on the weekend because they are not yet open when I leave for work in the morning & have already closed when I get home.

My cuttings always do better than the mother plants. I think it is because my potting soil is better than nursery potting soil. But it seems I took cuttings of the same color because I now have a pot full of...all yellow.

I do that same thing with the color

The reward part is starting to show.
