I think this is an older variety but haven't been able to locate it. Any suggestions?

Lamium maculatum 'Beacon Silver' looks good..

http://www.perennials.com/seep...

http://www.gardenersworld.com/...

I'm seeing some with silver over most lf the leaf also called Beacon Silver, but I came across another. Lamium maculatum 'Chequers' which also looked the same. I found that on the Heritage plant site and it does have stripes in the middle of the leaves, but the flowers are more robust.

http://www.moodysnursery.com/i...

http://www.perennials.com/seep...

However, the description for Beacon Silver is:

"This classic selection forms a spreading patch of small silver leaves with a narrow green edge"

For Chequers:

"This vigorous selection forms a spreading patch of small heart-shaped green leaves with a silvery stripe down the middle"

It would appear to be Lamium maculatum 'Chequers'.

If you search on the site for Lamium iit brings up 15 varieties.

On another site here the description for Chequers is different!

That's more or less supported ..

Hmmm!

Chequers looks to be winning!

Do you think it lost it's brown spots? Hilarious!

I think Lamium maculatum is safe.

I think you are both right. The pictures were taken in late October which is fall here. There probably is more bloom earlier in the season I'll add it to the data base.

Janet is the BEST! I have a difficult time comparing photo's so unless it's a plant that I'm definitely familiar with ... I just guess.

*Blush* My experienced eye must have come from comparing all those tiny details in bugs. Hilarious!

JR: I'm sure your experience comparing the tiny details of bugs has helped with identification of plants as well! As I age, my eyesight isn't what it used to be but I was never good with details anyway Big Grin I'd probably do better if I'd take my time but I almost have to have two photo's side by side or see the plants in person to tell the differences. I try to go back and forth from photo's posted here to photo's on the internet but it's still hard for me to identify in that manner ... and my very short attention span doesn't help. Big Grin

You are a huge asset to this ID Forum and I, for one really appreciate your help! Thumbs up

Thanks Lin, I'll try to continue! I'm not so young any more either, but luckily my eye sight is good.

I have trained my brain to recognise what I'm looking at, I won't let it do anything else. Rolling on the floor laughing
