I really did try for an ID myself but on dial-up some sites were a pain and I gave up

I am so not good at comparing photo's. My first thought was Verbesina of some sort but that isn't right. It also reminds me of the Coreopsis major "Whorled Leaf Coreopsis":

Hi Ginger! Nature seems to provide yellow, maybe insects prefer it.

I think it looks like Croptilon divaricatum, which on your local site is called Haplopappus divaricatus. Slender Scratch Weed..

Me too ... I can only imagine what it will look like come Spring! I think a lot of folks will be adding new plants, information and photo's during the winter months!

Was just looking at my profile and was surprised (happily so) to see that I've added 101 images. All right here in my yard with very little plant duplication...the most of the same "type" is brugmansia in which I posted pics of 7 (?) different ones. I feel good and for the most part this here beast has played nice and ignored the fact that I am very much a computer DUMMY
