I got them for 25¢ a piece in 4" pots two years ago in the fall. They pretty much looked dead. Must be tough little guys. : )
I am fascinated with how tiny the leaves are, and the bonus of over the top blooms.

I would imagine this year we will be able to find plenty of half dead looking plants, at a good price, with all of this heat. Then we PMD'S (plant mother doctors) can take them home and nurse them back to health. And I'm sure we won't have to wait until fall this year. I feel so sorry for all of the growers and nurseries around here.

Debbie the nurseries have been discounting here since June. Last year I bought a bunch of stuff for a buck a piece and to come to think of it, I don't think any of it came back this year. You must be a good plant doctor. Probably time for me to do some compost top dressing this fall and prepare my beds for spring planting. Yet another reason I love my containers Big Grin

Canyon duet is a real charmer. Prior to looking in on this forum my idea of container gardening was one container, one type of plant, O.K. maybe two. I grin and shake my head as I walk past them now. Thanks all for the eye opening bunch of fantastic containers.

I love that idea Susan. : )
I think both ways work depending on what the plant is.

I confess I am a planter addict.I cant seem to get thru a spring with buying containers. It has to stop.
Evan: Your remark about having eyes opened to container possibilities is how I got started with the gardens period.
It wasnt until I joined a website and saw so many beautiful gardens that I realized I should make a project here. It has saved my sanity.
I lived on a small lot with a garage in the back yard. No garden room.I bought large planters to line te driveway First year I planted eggplants and annuals2003

I bought a house w/DD and SIL 4 years ago.Lots og room, big possibilities and I am working at it.
I moved 11 containers here and added to them to make the big deck a garden area. Easier to weed than anything.

Susan that is a big LOL.
I just couldnt leave them behind.DD and I share them on the deck and in gardens. I tried planters in the gardens but they were really neglected, too far to drag the hose and hand water. Next year, all planters will be on the deck or walkway.

JoAnn, I think that is the best tip of the day. Wish somebody would have talked to me about dragging the hose twenty years ago although with my plant shopping addiction I'm not sure if I would have listened. You were lucky to be able to start over. I think the only way to end this madness is to move or rent a bulldozer Big Grin

JoAnn, hopefully that's a long time from now. Thumbs up

Susan, to keep the petunias fresh, I cut them back in mid-summer. I gave them their haircut and put them in shade before I left for vacation. My friend watered for me while I was gone. When I got home I put them back in sun. Now they're starting to bloom again, and they should look good for a while.

Karen that is an awesome tip. Did you submit it to Trish for the Tip feature?
I didn't know about giving petunias a haircut mid summer. Thank you. Group hug

You're welcome, Lynn. It really does wonders for the plant, keeps it pretty until fall. (that is, if I don't forget/neglect to water it)

Okay, I just have to ask..what flower/pant is called EE? Love your containers, especially those white urns, where did you buy the stand that the urn is sitting on? That lady head is beautiful? Source of that? KatG in Fla.? She has some unique ones in her Florida Sunroom. She puts jewelry on them, flowers in their "hair" I think she sells them.
