Hi Sheryl!

Check out the second pic on my post above. That is Joan Senior Smiling For me it is a white with a grennish yellow throat. It's fabulous and quick to increase. It is also pod and pollen fertile if you get into hybridizing at all. I have a few really pretty seedlings from it too.
Her she is last year and a clump shot too

Dan has converted several things for me and Jane to use, she gets to use them first being she has the plants and Dan checks the pollen. I grew Joan Senior for a long time and still grow Gentle Shepherd in my display area. GS is where my white uf program started, I crossed it with a long petal lavender seedling from Miss Jessie and got Lillian's Sweet Thang, crossed LST with Skin Walker and got Lillian's Thin Ice, crossed LTI with Lavender Butterfly and got Lillian's Vapor Trail and Lillian's White Lies. I made that first Gentle Srepherd cross in 1999 and registered Lillian's Vapor Trail and Lillian's White Lies this year (2011) so it's taken twelve years to get to this point. I hope the next one comes a little faster, I am not getting any younger.

Lyle, fascinating history & genetic story of those beautiful whites you have. I am not into whites usually ( as you may have noticed, I only have 1) but yours are making me rethink them. Thank you ~Jan

I'm sorry, Kim - I missed it! I thought I had looked through all the lovelies, oops! Thank you.

Smokeys sent it to me as a bonus plant, which is good because I never think to order white.

Great thread!

I bought a passel of seeds on the Lily Auction, all of which had Margo Reed Indeed as a parent. One batch was crossed with Starman's Quest x Lady Neva, one was crossed with Laura Harwood, and one with a seedling. About 20 are growing and it will be fun to see which, if any, pick up on the white color. These are the hybridizer's posted photos:

How do Jamie's plants do for you in your climate??? I have a couple and I am hesitant to buy any more because they are very slow growing here.

White is and always will be in Style. I will always love good whites. I am partial to the deep greens in them though as they looks so fresh and clean.

Thanks for that info, Lyle! Do you use it both ways, or just for pollen? I have it in the ground so I'm inclined to just try the pollen... And by the way, I really love your DESERT ANGEL! It's increasing in size quite nicely, and I can't wait for the next bloom season!

Jamie's plants do well here over all. I think they need a good dormancy (well, most of them) and we have it here!

Betty - Desert Angel is pod and pollen fertile.

Thanks Cindy!

This is a seedling from DA and a sib, DA was the pollen parent.

I only have one white - Frozen Mert. I have grown it for many years, way before Dottie named it. We called it the white breeder. I think it is in the background of many of Jamie's spidery whites.

I am not a fan of white flowers of any type. I have one white peony, and the phlox Davidii - and I think that is it for whites.

The pale yellows and peaches shown here are quite pretty! I am a huge fan of yellow in any hue, and any type of plant.
