Cinda, I do have some persimmon trees but they are not like Shoes. The ones I have were here when we moved here. Been so dry this year, we didn't have very many. The deer love them..

Great looking persimmons you have there, gypsy...I can just taste them!

And yes, gardengus, I eat them; just had one a while ago! If I had more I'd make cookies or pudding or something but it's a great treat to eat out of hand as is. Yummy!

Sherry, what are you going to do with them? Eat them fresh or use in cooking and baking?

We gobble the fuyu like candy...lol. I like the Hachiya uncooked also, but usually make Persimmon Pudding or Persimmon Cookies. I'll have to experiment this year with Gluten Free cookie recipes....

I've been looking around to see what else there is here to enter into the databse, but didn't even think of the 'simmons, until Shoe added his...lol..

Fuyu persimmons were touted here some years ago as the new big cash crop to be growing here, but so many expect to grow them, water them, pay labor for care and picking and then pay the packinghouse (without doing the work themselves) that they found they were only making about $.05 per pound and a lot of the orchards were let go...shame..they're so beautiful, besides being so tasty.

Years ago when we were living in Northern California, we stumbled onto an old abandoned homesite with a huge Hachiya persimmon tree. Thereafter, every year we would go and pick the persimmons. Then one year we found that somebody else had found 'our' persimmon tree and it became a challenge each year to wait until the 'simmons were ready to pick and yet beat these interlopers to the tree...lol.
When we bought land here 30 years ago, it was the first thing I planted.

They are beautiful fruits ... and tasty too. I planted a tree in my yard in Nor Cal. I believe it was the Hachiya if memory serves me correctly ... which it sometimes doesn't. I have a good recipe for Persimmon Cookies but not gluten free. I think I'll make some this year. I haven't in awhile.
