I guess you can think of this as the inverse of a single lily having multiple cultivar names. That problem is solved using the additional cultivar field.

But what to do when multiple unique cultivars have the same name? For example, there are (at least) two cultivars with the name 'Starburst', two named 'Fanfare', two named 'Salsa' and the list goes on.

I looked at PlantFiles to see how it was done there. It looked like the 'Salsa's were dumped in the same place, though they are totally different lilies. I prefer not to do that. Help!

We are currently only dealing with this with Roses, and I made a special exemption for them. Zuzu can add plants without having them checked as duplicates. For this reason, we can have several different Rosa plants with the same cultivar name.

I can do the same thing for Lilies, if you like. Currently I have to add the exemption on a username basis, so I can do this for you only and/or someone else.

This is done! Be aware that you will NOT get a notice if you are trying to add a duplicate plant. So you now need to first search to see if a plant exists before you add it to avoid duplicates.
