Garden Tours: Valleylynn, Lynn Smith

By Sharon
November 12, 2011

Let's take a trip this week to Oregon and visit the lovely gardens created by Lynn Smith and her husband, Cliff. It's always fun to step out of our own climate to see what grows well in another, and sometimes it's even more fun to see what our climates have in common. You are going to love what you see!

Thanks for the great tour, Lynn! That will have to keep me satisfied until the spring, as we are now in the middle of a snow storm, with wind and everything - covering all my plants up for the winter. I'll dream of your lovely perennials, and those shrubs - heaven.

Jacki how wonderful to see you. I've really missed you. I know you have been very busy with your nursery and online site. It has grown tremendously. Love all the tutorials you've added.
I will have to try some of those projects come next summer when the weather warms enough. I particularly love the earth/cement hand and path stones.

I can't even imagine snow this early. : (
I know some of the others out there have already had snow start up in their areas. We get very little here and it doesn't stay long when we do get some.
This was a record snow for us, winter of 2003-2004. Couldn't get down our road for a few days. Needless to say there was no school, so I didn't have to go to work. : )

He had one Sue and it is now living at my house. I will take a photo and post it here. He did say I will have to mulch it well.
Wow, does it ever smell like peanut butter. And you don't have to rub the leaves to get the smell. Just walking by it brings peanut butter scent wafting all over the place. Thumbs up

How cool!
Lynn, you better put that mulching on your to-do list before you leave for D.C!

I got it in the ground this evening and put a bunch of mulch around it. It is marginally hardy here and I don't want to take any chances. The leaves are gorgeous.
Daryll's only had the Melianthus Major, so this one will get very large (8' to 12' feet tall). I gave it plenty of room.

Now to baby it through the winter. I did put a bunch of mulch around it and over the crown of the plant.

Thank you Larry. I can't believe I still have a few things blooming, one of which is the Fever Few. I love that plant.

So far my Melianthus major is holding it's own. I know we still have the worst part of winter to come yet. I did put down a very thick layer of mulch. Hopefully it will keep it protected.
