Anyone care to comment on the pros and cons of fall vs. spring planting? I know I've read that spring-planted lilies will bloom later than normal, but otherwise a lot of the "official" printed literature is rather vague. It would be great to hear what you all have to say about it.

I never get around to planting any lilies in the fall so I am always stuck with spring planting. And I have hundreds and hundreds of lilies here by now. I just keep on getting more. Depends on how late in the spring you plant them but usually they do bloom late that first year but adjust themselves by the following year. Plus I like spring planting because I can see exactly were the ones I already have are coming up in case I want to add more to that area.

You are correct about late bloom for spring planted bulbs. They return to their regullarly schedualed program the following year.
I havnt seen any difference as to first bloom size except the lilies are a bit shorter. I planthe Giraffe in the spring. It was about 36 inches that year. The following year it was 5 geet.
