Early gardening and farming was nearly a full time daily job for the initial settlers of the thirteen colonies. The climate and soil were new to them and it took quite some time to discover what fruits, vegetables and crops would grow successfully here.

Loved this article. Took me back quite a few years. I remember helping my grandma come harvest time, putting pumpkins and such up in the attic, potatoes down in the cellar, wrapping apples in brown paper and set out in the pump house shed. Loved it back then and still do quite a bit of the 'old timey' preservation.

Thanks.

It almost makes you wonder how much food was wasted, or used, in all the experiments. Or how often they got sick from it all. So thankful for all they sacrificed.
