I got this plant at a swap and was told only that it was "violet shrub". No picture of an open bloom, but they look exactly like a purple violet. In spring/summer the leaves are all green, but are now showing a bit of fall color. When I looked it up nothing I saw quite fit. The first pic is of a bud...it dropped before opening.

Barleria cristata, family Acanthaceae.

Thanks Janet. You beat me to the punch I was gonna submit after a possitive ID. Sure hope it survives the winter...need to get a cutting in case.
