I think they could be just as happy & vigorous in a pot with similar conditions, warmth, a little direct light, not drying out, plenty of space for roots/rhizomes to roam.
And I forgot to say, all of my buds are forming on brand-new pups that came up from underground this summer. That would explain why I had so few the past few winters. I'd given most of the new pups away to people on here & on FB because they were shorter, needed less trimming to fit in boxes, and new leaves are so much more pretty that I figured people would rather open packages with those than the older, faded leaves formed in previous years. I'd done that starting around Oct 1 so it wouldn't be too cold when they were being shipped. I didn't have time to get into giving away the excess this year because I'm working full time now.
