I got 4 catalogues yesterday and another 4 today. I agree that that the Landreth catalogue is absolutely gorgeous......can't wait to sit down and read some of the historical images in it.....

Sheryl--it I remember correctly, I think they're normally around 24 or 25 dollars.

I got a couple that got tossed, but Landreth, Bountiful Garden, Native American Seed, and Seed Savers Exchange are in a pile with wayyyyyy too many corners turned down marking the pages that have seeds that I want! Hilarious! Agreed that Landreth is a beauty. Pepper Joe doesn't have much of a catalog, but my husband loves getting pepper seed from Joe.

Does anyone get Seeds of Change? I haven't gotten there catalog in a while, it used to be wonderful.

Thanks, Linda!

Sheryl--you're most welcome. Have you used the biodomes before? I have one, but haven't tried it yet--those little "plugs" worry me....can the roots grow through them OK?

I haven't gotten Seeds of Change this year yet either (nor my Baker Creek). I'm busy devouring the Territorial Seeds and Johnny's this weekend. Johnny's seems to have added more growing information this year...good info on which plants to use during different parts of the season, etc. I think it's meant mainly for small/commercial growers, but no reason we home growers can't benefit as well. I'm always looking for ways to get more than 1 crop/season.

Yeah, I have two Biodomes that have been put through an awful lot of various other uses, lol. The roots do just fine - I think you'll like it once you've used it. They're pretty popular with good reason. And the openings in the bottom are nice for bottom watering = no fungus gnats.

OK---I've got to get brave and try it. I think I bought it at their sale last year, but just worried when I saw those little sponges. I feel better knowing someone that has used them.

Do you always buy the replacement plugs, Sheryl, or have you tried using your own growning medium in the Bio Dome (although I can't imagine how you would get them out of there)?

I used peroxide on the sponges after installing them .. I imagined the moist plugs growing fungus in the baggies.. maybe I am just paranoid though

Happy New Year seed heads!!!

No Seeds of Change here yet either, though I don't buy from them (no bad experiences, just a personal choice. They're owned by Mars Inc, which I find... interesting). There are quite a few that I haven't gotten yet. Any day now I'm sure. I'll have to restrain myself from even opening any more. Either that, or I'll just give up and start a seed bank. I'm halfway there anyway, LOL!

I've not used the biodome, I just use potting mix for everything. I once tried some sponge type things for seeds. I think they were made by Sunleaves. Very wet all the time! The seeds did OK, but I still prefer potting mix I think.

Happy New Year everyone. Cute greeting Allison!

I bought sponges from Henry field's a few years ago.. loved the little kit .. then they changed the sponges.. and I don't like them anymore.. it was a simple six pack in a plastic container.. was so nice if you just wanted to start a few seeds rather then a whole flat.. and I found if I plant the sponges in the ground in spring.. the critters would run over it.. feel something different and dig them up.. after a few weeks of replanting the seedlings every day.. I just gave up.. but the new ones were too soft and would collapse easily

No, I didn't use the sponges, just potting soil.
