Hello all, I don't want to offend anyone but I think there are too many Hosta Nurseries that show a repetition of plants. I know they are different but nobody can tell them apart. The price of a hosta depends on how many there are to how many people want. The old tried and true hostas are going for such a reasonable price in some nurseries. They are hard to beat. I don't really see any new improvement to the species yet. Anyway, enjoy and I would like to hear from you all.

Some nice plants there. Please consider adding photos of what you have to the database.

Very, very, nice pictures! I really am impressed with 'Francis Williams' I didn't realize it was so upright Big Grin I love the upright Hostas especially the variegated ones. I didn't buy one because someone said they get brown spots or something. Confused

Hello all, I really love the great ones, Great Expectation, Francis Williams (reverse of Great Expactation) There are many copies of them with different names but all look alike. Also because they have been around for so many years, the price for them is really cheap. Look at the common hosta's in the on-line nurseries and stock up on some great deals. The high priced ones will come down in a few years. I don't think they are worth it anyway. Other cheap ones i love, Gold Standard That looks like Paul's Glory, June (opposite of Wide Brim), Whirlwind. Can't go wrong. Also a new one I purchased a few years ago Paradigm, & Sagae.

I have ahd Francis Williams for 5 years in my garden and just got another eye last year -- mine are really really slow growers -- would love it if someone made a new Francis Williams that had faster growth!!!

I think Stush said Whirlwind is a fast grower Hurray! I might get one of those in the spring. I have a dream list somewhere, all hostas that are slug resistant, sun tolerant, and grow fast. I don't want much. Right? Rolling on the floor laughing

Don't blame the hosta, blame the dirt. Make sure you have enough compost added in the mix before planting and use some alfalfa meal to it. Also as Paul said 'Hosta loves water'. Provide some shade and keep watered. I use compost tea when available.

We have a gardening talk show here and I have heard the host say many times "dirt" is what you get under your fingernails. Our plants grow in "soil." I agree with the use of Alfalfa Pellets and any other good organic materials. Fall of 2010 I prepared a bed for iris seedlings adding my compost, some of the cities compost, lots of dry leaves, alfalfa pellets, and some bulb food. I planted the iris seedlings out in May and the second picture is in August. They loved the organic matter.

Spring,
No I didn't think anyone would like to see them. I will take some more in the summer. They are not very nice, just the plain green, blue and some yellow.
